Big thumbs up for 3 5G broadband.

I've just signed up to 3 5G broadband via the moneysaving link at £19 pm 24 months. Gotta say this is the best BB I've ever had.

Easy setup via the 3 app, from there you can access all the guts of the router without having to navigate to a webpage.

I'm getting north of 350MPS even though it's advertised as 150.

Within the app I changed the username and passcode to what I had on my old Talk Talk router and it connected straight up to 19 devices in my house without me having to resync all my smart lights, cctv, doorbells, printers etc. The only one I had to manually connect was my Sky box.

The included router has a far better range than any of my previous ones (BT, Talk Talk, Virgin, Plusnet) It even reaches out to my Ring doorbell at the gate on the end of the drive without a relay.

The only small drawback I have found is that it only has 2 LAN ports, but then I only need 2.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I've had a 5G router through three since November and it's great.   Allegedly I can't get 5G from three, but I actually get about 900Mbps, haha.

I bought a second hand router for £100 from CEX (NR5103E) and it works really well.  I use the IP pass through to connect to my own router and it works really well.

I bought a Scancom three SIM from Amazon which gives me 1TB a month, every month until December 2025 (works out to be about £6 a month).   One of the best things is that you can move the modem to wherever you want in the house instead of having to always be wherever the fibre line comes in from.   Also, great on holiday where you just take it with you and it's exactly the same as when you're at home.

I bought my own TP Link Deco X50 5G router, ex display for less that £200 from a online TP Link dealer.
It's ruthlessly simple to set up and configure via their own app.

I just use whatever 5G unlimited data sim card I can find that's the cheapest.

I'm currently using Smarty (3 network) unlimited data sim for £15 a month via one of the comparison sites.

Download speeds vary on time of day but according to my OpenSignal app I get a steady 600Mbps wirelessly most of the day.
Like above, it does top out much higher early in the mornings when the 5G netowork isn't as busy.

We were only getting around 7Mbps from Plusnet and my phone's 5G signal (O2) is around 30ish Mbps in the same location.

You can use the OpenSignal app to check the 5G in your area, see which is best.

I’ve moved from Three to 02 recently (better speeds - now average around 275 here) but would happily recommend both. 5G broadband is generally cheaper and often more reliable than broadband with wires.

Another vote for the tp link deco - I’ve tried a few routers and this is the best by far.

One other thought. I find the providers coverage predictions to be a bit “safe”. Much better to do some speed tests at upstairs windows using various phone sims (ask your friends and family !). You might be pleasantly surprised at the results.
