You could try a Sky SR203 router - there should be plenty on eBay and be relatively cheap. Some NOW customers used them when they were disappointed with the WIFI performance of the NOW Hub 2.

While looking for a Sky SR203 I saw there was a newer one SR213. Would you know if this is any better?

I can't comment on the SR213 - so I’m unable to confirm whether it would work with NOW Broadband. From a quick search it appears to be provided as part of Sky's 'WIFI Max' boost option. I think it's a WIFI 6 router and may be controlled via an App.

Personally, I would probably stick with the cheaper SR203. If your sister is on an older (FTTC) NOW Broadband package, she may well have to upgrade to (FTTP)/change provider in the near future. Any change will come with its own new router. As an aside, it looks like the SR203 came with a power supply in a separate box, so make sure it comes with one.

I don’t have any first hand experience of using the SR203 with NOW Broadband. Hopefully, some other posters can comment further or correct anything I may have got wrong.

You are worrying over nothing. Just because the router is not getting security updates it does not mean that you are magically going to get hacked and have your lives destroyed. I would not spend any money unnecessarily. You write that they offer to terminate so just terminate the contract and order new broadband. They will send you an updated version of the router. People who hack a router are doing it very targeted which barely ever happens unless you are someone very important that is in the eyes of the public a lot. As someone else pointed out someone would also have to actually find a flaw in the router in order for them to hack it. Things like this do not just happen.
