This company came cheapest via comparison sites. However, I have never heard them before. There are some reviews in TrustPilot which is mix of good & bad so can't really make any decision from there.

Legally they are owned by OneCall Insurance which is showing as registered in FCA. I am not questioning their legality but asking if anyone have any first had experience dealing with them.

Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Not "One Protect", but I have used One Call and currently One Click. Their website homepages all look the same. I used/use them to insure my "Classic" car and have never had any problems.
However, they are cheap, for my current and past policies, which could mean they are cheap for a reason. No doubt they are only as good as if a claim is made and how it is handled.
Fortunately I have not had to make a claim - yet!

I've not had any dealings with them myself but I believe most of your dealing with them are done via "chat" on their website.

My insurance company Swiftcover use the same method and it's all down to how many and how good the online agents are, though Swiftcover tends to let you do a lot of the admin stuff yourself within their portal.

What does appear to be a kick in the pants is OneProtects admin charges.
Yes, most insurance companies charge healthily for policy changes these days but they are fairly expensive seeing though they use this online portal/agent chat features.

If you aren't planning of lots of policy changes and the quote is cheap enough, why not go with them?

Its not "owned by", it simply is OneCall using a trading style

You can search on here for opinions on OneCall, they're a broker rather than an insurer.

Make sure you have answered every question 100% accurately, they are one of a few that post inception will run a number of checks and will charge you if they find out you bought the car a few weeks difference from what you told them etc.

Agreed, for One Call and One Click, even cancelling within the first 14 days attracts a £49.99 "admin" fee, as a new customer. A bit less for renewals.

I'll probably pass them, bit too much of unknowns. The next nearest quote is from well known mainstream insurer for around £100 more.

Used One Call in 22 & 23 no claims, no issues, the cashback was also paid.

Just cancelled my home insurance which I took out 24 hours ago through the broker One Protect. The policy came in from AXA which I trust. However, there was an error on the fact sheet. My roof is slate not tiled. Went on line to 'chat' with them. (15 minute standby wait). They wanted to charge me £15 to amend it, thought that was unreasonable (also made two other insurance quotes I had received cheaper) as they had advised me to check policy over and correct wrong information. I had paid £172 as quoted by One Protect but the schedule from AXA stated the amount payable was £219.92. All of this made my sixth sense rattle about this broker. Cut to the chase cancelled the insurance (14 day cooling period and within 24 hours) they refunded me 122 keeping 50 as an admin charge. Properly mugged off.
  • Awful customer service, I was hit by a driver who would not give his details, I had to provide all the details several times, and dealing with the "Chat Bot" was nigh on imposable, and took ages, (I am over 30 minutes on line with them right now just to change my car an still not finished)

20 minutes on line waiting to get through to the chat  box…

    then

Hi, how can I help you today?

    Alisha R - 1:18 pm

I want to change my car I went to the portal but it says I have to contact you as I can't do it on line?

    Trevor Barnes - 1:22 pm

No worries I can look to get a quote now

    Alisha R - 1:22 pm

Is this the correct vehicle? LAND ROVER, DISCOVERY SPORT SE TECH TD4 180, 1999cc,
    2015-2019 D A Estate Car/St

    Alisha R - 1:28 pm

    yes

    Trevor Barnes - 1:28 pm

Are there any other changes you would like to make?

    Alisha R - 1:34 pm

other than changing the car no, I did see that on line the change was £24 but more on this system, as it wasn't available on line I shouldn't have to pay the more expensive price?

    Trevor Barnes - 1:36 pm

    The portal fee is £24.00

    Alisha R - 1:39 pm

I am just getting the quote now

    Alisha R - 1:39 pm

I have noticed on the policy that you have opted for the basic level of our breakdown membership. Is there any reason for this? Do you have this cover elsewhere?

    Alisha R - 1:39 pm

    yes

    Trevor Barnes - 1:39 pm

I only ask as we do have our Gold breakdown cover which covers you for an unlimited amount of call outs with no call out excess to be paid.

This also covers you for wheel changes, home start, roadside assistance, recovery and caravan towing. This is all included for just £29.24 for the year. Would this be more beneficial for what you require?

    Alisha R - 1:44 pm

No thanks just change the car please

    Trevor Barnes - 1:44 pm

I can see you have opted not to purchase the Guaranteed Hire Vehicle. While your policy may provide a courtesy vehicle in the event of a claim, this is not guaranteed.

We have the option to upgrade your cover to also provide a hire vehicle in the event of a fault, accident or vandalism claim for as little as £21.72 for the year, is this something you would require?

    Alisha R - 1:48 pm

Again, no thanks, I don't want to make any changes, I just want to change the car

    Trevor Barnes - 1:50 pm

To change the vehicle there is an additional premium of £230.51, this includes the change in the insurer’s rates and our administration fee of £42.50.

Your excess is 0.00 Voluntary and 5000 compulsory, giving you a total excess of 5000.

Does this remain affordable for you? If not we do have a way to look at protecting the excess for you with our lifestyle excess protector, is this something you would like to discuss?

    Alisha R - 1:52 pm

this excess is incorrect as its half the cost of the car??? my policy says, 150 compulsory

    Trevor Barnes - 1:54 pm

The excess is correct, that is the excess that is applied for all land rovers

    Alisha R - 1:55 pm

I will likely end my policy and use another service; no doubt you will charge me a fee to leave?

    Trevor Barnes - 1:56 pm

There would be no refund due if you choose to cancel

your company is worthless, I can't even get to a person to talk to,

    Trevor Barnes - 1:58 pm

how much is the cost to reduce the excess to a normal level?

    Trevor Barnes - 2:00 pm

I am sorry about this but as you can appreciate your insurers choose the compulsory excess and due to the high risk all land rovers are the insurer has decided to increase this to £5000. This cannot be reduces

    Alisha R - 2:01 pm

    reduced*

    Alisha R - 2:01 pm

    Forget it...

AVOID this lot at all costs.

You can only use chat which is annoying, however after a year with them, didn't have a problem with a windscreen claim, just a chip repair, done professionally by their contractor and excess was reasonable at £25.
I never auto renew, so I don't think they are worst or better than the slew of cheap brokers out there.
Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!
