Tesco car inurance

Please can you help? I requested a quote for car insurance from Tesco and they came back saying they could not offer me insurance. I am 63 and the request is for electric Vauxhall combo car. I have full no claims history. I have been a customer of Tesco bank for a number of years and also have home insurance with them. I phoned customer service and they said they were unable to tell me why just that it is the decision of the underwriter. I have not had this experience with any other insurance providers. I would just like to be told the reason for this and think it is wrong they won't say. I have raised a complaint and waiting for their reply. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with Tesco?

They won't tell you, it will be an underwriting decision.
If you go and put your details into a comparison site no doubt there will be a load of companies who won't offer you a quote. Same happens to me.
Dont take it personally. A complaint will get you nowhere and they won't change their underwriting just for you, withdraw the complaint and move on and get insurance elsewhere. Being a bank customer is an irrelevance also.4 -
There is no chance a complaint will get your anywhere.
You'll have to find an alternative insurer.1 -
Allegedly not all insurers/underwriters will insure battery electric vehicles. Likely to be as simple as that.
LV= do. Probably worth checking Vauxhall Car Insurance | Drive Away Insurance | Vauxhall as well.1 -
I had the same thing, 6 months into insurance for a Hyundai I20. Wouldn't insure me when I bought andn electric so had to start new insurance with another company. Ok, fair enough.... what annoyed me is the huge cancelation fee for (obviously) canceling my insurance with them. As it's them who won't insure me I feel there should have been no fee to pay1

You chose to change the vehicle you were driving. Bulk of insurance cost is administration. This is incurred at the outset / renewal of the policy. Hence the sizable deduction.HumberFlyer said:I had the same thing, 6 months into insurance for a Hyundai I20. EV's have a tendency to go on fire even when parked up.
Have you told your home insurer that you have an electric car?
You may find that your home insurance premium increasing.0 -
As opposed to petrol driven cars, which famously never catch fire.retiredbanker1 said:EV's have a tendency to go on fire even when parked up.

No need to tell home insurance company unless they ask. I've never had a home insurer ask what kind of car I drive - have you?0 -
It's quite amazing how much nonsense and ignorance there is about electric vehicles.Aretnap said:

I suggest you check your facts on all your comments. Do a little research you don't have to look far and you will find if you want to be silly about vehicles catching fire that petrol/diesel vehicles are more likely to catch fire than EV's.retiredbanker1 said:EV's have a tendency to go on fire even when parked up.

The issues with EVs is not the frequency of when they catch fire but the ferocity of the fire when they do. They tend to cause much more damage when they do go up. If its at home then thats your own problem but anywhere else and there are often claims for damage to adjacent cars, road resurfacing etc etc which do also happen with ICE vehicles but not at the frequency of EVsSwaledale said:
