Advice on redundancy / alternative employment situation

I’m hoping someone can offer me some advice here..

sorry for the essay but my company recently restructured my department and took us through a consultation process. As there was 3 of us (all done same role and roles were being made redundant) we could apply for the roles within the new structure. I applied for 2 and didn’t get either, although I felt I met at least 70% of the job spec and have therefore been made redundant. I recently found out the person they have hired doesn’t have the experience in the areas I was told was why I didn’t get the job. Eg it is a brand and content job - I have been brand manager in the past - new person can do content but no exp in managing a brand. I also realised after they never told us we had the right to appeal the redundancy decision.

Although I have found myself a new job, nothing was done to support me with this and I am now on lower pay with no company car (had previously) so also need to find the funds to buy a car.

Do I have a case here for unfair dismissal or am I wasting my time?

Any advice appreciated!

Did you get a redundancy payment? Did you sign something saying you agreed to the terms of the redundancy? If so I don't think you have much of a case.

Proving that you should have been given one of the available roles because you were the most suitable candidate wouldn't be easy. Also your employer isn't responsible for helping you find a role in another company.
  • I did get a redundancy payment but I didn’t sign anything.

on your second point, they rejected me and my colleague then interviewed externally. I read on acas that they should do all they can to find you alternative employment but if I don’t have a case here I won’t pursue, I just felt I hadn’t been treated fairly after being there 9 years.

Don't agonise over this, just move on.

If the role is made redundant, there is nothing to appeal against. Your employers decided that whereas the qualities you possess were fine for the old role, they were just not the right fit for the new role, but and in the employer's eyes the successful candidate had those qualities.

Employers often make decisions which to employees seem illogical or unfair, but employees are rarely aware of the whole picture
