Order not coming from UK but China

I ordered a couple of natural repellent dog collars stupidly assuming they were coming from the UK as it was a .uk website. There was no immediate update on my purchase and on checking the company has a registered address in Austria, (but I've since found out that he products are being shipped from China, all a bit of a sham. They have been tracked to the UK, can I refuse delivery? Or will I need to ship back? As I would not trust using these collars on my dogs.

Unfortunately you will probably have little or any prospect of getting a refund from Chinese shippers, although not sure about the Austrian registered office.
If you do return it will be at your expense and often a refund never happens.
You can’t refuse delivery as the postage will have already been paid by the shipper and the courier/Royal Mail will not return it free of charge.0 -
You can refuse delivery but you won't get a refund for having done so, the goods will never make it back to them so they will refuse and they arent uk based so no realistic option via the courts.Dingledell said:I ordered a couple of natural repellent dog collars stupidly assuming they were coming from the UK as it was a .uk website. How much did you pay for them?
How did you pay? Card presumably?
Refusing delivery MAY give you an option for chargeback but @born_again would be better placed to advise on if such a thing will be considered effectively a "return" and therefore what evidence is required to action a chargeback (eg tracking showing they got the goods back)1 -
often you can return but the return costs to China are just not worth it.
any refund option (and you might have what used to be called distance selling rights) will require you to return the items via a tracked service.

on some sites it’s difficult to tell, but if delivery times are 7-14 days then that’s usually a tell tale sign it’s china.0 -
Not advised as retailer can simply reject chargeback for non receipt on the basis delivery refused.DullGreyGuy said:

TBH, what is the issue with the product from China. End of the day that is where most products come from.

You can refuse it but if it fits the letterbox technically that's delivered.
Refer to the Consumer Rights Act 2015: As a UK consumer, you have rights. If the goods are not as described (i.e., you reasonably believed they were coming from the UK), you have grounds for rejecting them and claiming a full refund.
Try contacting your bank or credit card company to dispute the transaction.

I always check the 'about us', 'shipping' and 'returns' pages of the website I'm thinking about doing business with.

Is the bit in bold actually true?
Can you really reject an order because you believed it would be shipped from within the UK?0 -
There is no way I would be putting some random shipped-from-China flea collars round the necks of my dogs either.1

Where are the dog collars sold in chains (Pets-at-home) and independent pet shops manufactured?1

Yes, it falls within conditions if he says, I'm selling dog collars; I'm a UK business, but really he's drop shipping, miles away and taking excessive time, so he's not being upfront.Pollycat said:

Can you really reject an order because you believed it would be shipped from within the UK?That's two big IFs there. What makes you think the seller made any such claims? OP just said:
So there's nothing to say that the seller claimed to be a UK-based business or to shop from the UK.Dingledell said:... stupidly assuming they were coming from the UK as it was a .uk website ... on checking the company has a registered address in Austria
Exactly which paragraph on that page says that the OP has a right to a refund in the circumstances they've described?TimeLord1 said:N. Hampshire, he/him.
