Funny, I was looking at a vlog mentioning that site; it's very detailed and knowledgeable.Rodders53 said:It's all explained in detail here if you care to read through the information on the site Explaining UK Smart Meters clearly and without bias
Exact frequencies used will depend on the precise kit installed and location in the UK.

I will watch it all through later but hes saying hes not had a bill for 8 months and has not paid anything but is expecting a huge winter bill . The smart meter has lost signal but surely its not gone blank screen and is not recording the usage .
smart meters will work as a normal digital meter in not far off 100% of the time so why can t he just send Octopus monthly readings on the app ? I ll ask him that in comments on the long youtube vid1 -
Probably by sensationalising it to make a video.
Why is there such a mystery about having a meter, smart or not. There's a lot more in this world to worry about than whether the meter uses 2, 3, 4 or 5G. You have to have a meter if you want gas or leccy, does it matter whether its smart, dumb, green red or blue.
I happily sent in monthly readings before I had a smart meter, likewise when it stopped being smart I still sent in monthly readings;
Now its smart again and doing what it should I still check the readings every month just to make sure the bills are correct
The most pressing problem for many people will be how their existing RTS meter responds when the sign gets shut off - it may default to peak rate and stop switching the water & heating or even worse default to peak and leave the heating and hot water on continuously.
Leaving it to the last minute may cause a lot of people a lot of grief especially if the last valve in the transmitter dies before everyone is changed over.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers4 -
yes , my friend up in Scotland has a RTS meter controlling his THTC meter.EDF say they are too busy to replace this meter . its due to switch off when the one of the two valves go s bang and the BBC will end analogue Radio 4 and RTS .I ve just researched what these valves are and typically its a huge vapour controlled thing weighing 170 lb and capable of handling a million watts .Not just a matter of unwrapping one and plugging it in like I do with my Valve amplifier .Can you let me know if you find out what will happen .no heat , peak heat or cheap heat /matelodave said:Probably by sensationalising it to make a video.

I think he did try but failed to get a response so called. Not exactly a great situation to be in he seems savvy enough to deal with it though.SAC2334 said:

@Newcad A question for you.Qyburn said:
Can you give some model numbers for these dual WAN hubs? "Dual band" was mentioned by Octopus in relation to our recent smart meter problems, I'd been assuming they referred to dual band in the HAN, but maybe not.Newcad said:North of that line from Liverpool to the Humber the WAN signal is a Long Range Radio system provided by Arqiva, telephone signals are not normally used North of that line*.Smart meter communications are a developing system, developing quite rapidly at the moment for various reasons, for example:*There is one new exception to that Nort/South division where new dual band Communications Hubs capable of both Arqiva LRR and 4G are now being fitted.0 -
The battery can flatten itself in just two years if it's installed without the electric meter as they sometimes are . The meter when first fitted is continually sending signal out to pair with an electric meter which is not fitted .MattMattMattUK said:
They use a battery for power and only periodically communicate with the electricity meter which has the comms hub on it. The battery is supposed to be good for ten or more years and is replaceable, though the current view is that the meters will just get replaced every ten years.J_B said:
Just curious - what about a smart gas meter?MattMattMattUK said:The smart meter itself uses energy from the pre-meter side, so no cost to the home owner, the IHD uses a nominal amount of power, most are between 2-8 watts (the power supply will be rated higher) with the display active, less when the display goes to sleep.0 -
He's answered my question on YouTube and said he sends reading in on the first of the month every month and is billed ok . So it's just more anti smart meter lies chasing YouTube viewsTimeLord1 said:

Ok, you should probably delete the quote vlog then as I did but he can't be anti smart meter if he's using the technology and vlogs about it.You would just refuse to accept it.SAC2334 said:

We don't pay the BBC to manufacture replacement valves for obsolete broadcasting equipment that is older than many (or possibly most) of the contributors to this forum (and many of them are old gits
) It really is time to stop whinhging about this and be a bit more helpful by getting your RTS meter swapped out if you have one. I understand from your posts that you've known about this for at least 18 months or so. If you haven't yet got your meter swapped out IMHO it is you that is being unhelpful. 3
