argos sofa falling apart

  • I had a friend who had a problem with her sofa from Argos. It was just over 2 years old. She called and complained, they sent someone out and she got a brand new suite.
Hers wasn't a dear suite and it was just the one sofa. She replaced it with one slightly different paying the extra but was really pleased with the customer service she received from them

hi ellies angel, thanks for your reply. i emailed them back stating we are on a low income and cannot afford to spend money on an independant upholsterer to check. i requested they send someone out to check as it it both sofa's right arms that are loose so therefore seems like a fault. i have also contacted consumer direct for advise. the sofas are just over 13 months old.

we are still going to send the template letter and photos by recorded mail (didn't get a chance today)- hopefully we will be as lucky as your friend

Good luck but just one word of warning. since it is beyond the 1 year mark they would be within their rights to offer a pro-rata'd refund rather than replace it. Therefore if they say that one could reapsonably expect the suite to have lasted 5 years then they may only offer 80% of its value (simply because they can claim that you got 20% of the wear from it).

This is getting to be more of a problem with cheap suites that are being imported these days. The wood is of poor quality and trimmed to be as thins as possible, springs are weak, stuffing loses it shape etc. They really are not designed to take the sort of abuse that they often receive (that is not to say the OP abused her furniture).

its is not up to you to rpeovide a report as long as you have provided eveidence of the fault and that it was just paust the 1 year period then it is down to them if they want to instruct an assesor to examine it in question

just send COPIES of photos by recorded delivery and state if it cant be repaired which doesnt sound like it will then a replacement will be required.

there may be a betterment deduction taken off for the use that you have had for it since you brought it but considering that the cost of the sofas hae come down its unlikely that you will have to fork out much for another one

your local council will dispose of the old sofa for you btw
  • How do you go about contacting Argos about things like this - what email to use etc.

We have our corner sofa on 9 months pay later. It took 2 months for it to arrive so we've had 6 months use. Its due to be paid end of March but I'm very unhappy with it.

Although its structure is intact, the cushions have pretty much squashed flat and its now uncomfortable to sit on. We can feel the wooden struts underneath the cushions and it makes our legs go to sleep.

Its been getting worse for a while but now its coming up to paying for it I resent paying for something thats not very old and has become uncomfortable to sit on.

    Thanks

I had an Argos sofa suite and after 5 months all the seat cushion went flat and the wooden beam cracked.
After calling Argos they sent out an repairer who fixed the problems.
After another 5 months the same problem happened.
This time Argos replaced both settee's within 2 weeks. Unfortunatly the same problem existed with the new ones (same model). So argos give me £50.00 refund and changed the suite for a completely new set (different model).
New model not brilliant and had to be mended due to the stitching unweaving.
Keep on at them it might pay off.
Think it's about time the comping fairy remembered where I am! lol

I purchased a mattress from Homebase around 2-3 years ago and it's all saggy and the plastic t-bar bits that connect to the bottom to the top of the mattress dig into us. I thought mattresses were meant to last 8-10 years.

I emailed Homebase, but got a reply from Argos direct (part of the same group obviously) saying they wanted me to get an independent report too.

Just wondered how you got on Chardonnay?
    :hello:
  • well we finally got round to calling out an upholster - it only cost 47 quid and he condemned the sofa as unsafe. argos refunded the 47 quid and offerred us a refund of 599, the full price we paid or a suite from them for 599 :j .

we took the refund of 599 as there were no equivalent suites available as we had bought ours in the sale.

we then bought a suite on ebay for a fraction of the price so are quids in :j

new suite arrived today and is soo much better and much more comfy.:j

downside is argos insisted in collecting old suite and the delivery men sent to uplift it have wrecked our hall. lots of big black marks on paintwork, lots of chips at the corner of the walls & bannister scraped. hall carpet pulled up as they must have been dragging it as they seemed to be struggling - lots of moaning and groaning. also they managed to dislodge the carpet on at least four of the stairs and then complained it was unsafe.

we know have to take pictures and send them in for compensation to be assessed , we only just finished redecorating the hall
