argos sofa falling apart

hi, we have had a leather sofa from argos for just over a year and it is falling apart. it is a 3 and 2 seater recliner. both of the right arms of the sofa are dodgy. one arm has got so loose that it goes at an angle and when you try to put the recliner down it is damaging the leather on the inside of the arm. we are terrified the arm will fall off one day:eek: . my hubby has put a bracket at the back of the sofa to try and hold the arm on but it seems to be slowly going as bad as it was. do we have any rights? argos only offer a 1 year guarantee.

You are still covered by the Sale of Goods Act (as amended). Just about anyone would expect a sofa to last more than a year with normal use. I suggest a trip to the consumer direct website for a template letter ;)

I don't think Argos will be too happy with you adding a bracket. I think you better remove it before it's examined.

guarentee is in addition to your consumer rights not instead of,

as said above argue under the same of goods act s.14 that the goods must be of satisfactory quality, even taking into account the amount of time you've had it the type of good and price shows that it should have lasted longer than that

thanks, i have now emailed argos the template letter for a faulty item and i have printed off one to send to them by recorded post just incase they ignore the email. we will also include photos of the damaged sofas. it's worth a try and hopefully we will get somewhere - we would be happy with a repair.

argos have replied to the email we sent stating

'I am sorry your sofas has developed a fault. As it is now out of the
12 month guarantee period an independent report will be required.

Please arrange for an accredited upholsterer to carry out an inspection
and give you a report. '

where do we find an accredited upholsterer and anyone have any idea how much this will cost?
