HelloFresh next steps ... ombunsdman?

very briefly i cancelled my HelloFresh subscription but they sent me a box regardless. Fortunately incident have the money in my bank account so they couldn't take the money BUT they sent the box anyway even though the transaction didn't go through.

now they are trying to charge me for the box I didn't want.

i have complained but they are remaining steadfast saying the cancellation wasn't received in time and it doesn't matter that I didn't have the funds available at the time they would still send anyway.

They are saying I need to pay and sending it to a debt agency to recover funds!

Anyone tried an ombundsman or know the next step I could take.

i don't think it's fair I cancelled and they sent a box even though the transaction didn't even go through.

They can't be very serious if they are sending it to a "debt agency" who have no powers to enforce debts unlike a court appointed bailiff.

But it will all depend on the terms and conditions of your contract with HF, whether HF can bring a claim against you in court and stand a good chance of winning. How much do they claim you owe them?

£53! It was for one box.
I just can't believe they sent it when there was no money in the account to pay for it.

Hello Fresh normally take the money a few days before dispatching the box - there's a deadline to cancel (did you assume that no money would equal no box?) but the box will be sent if it's not cancelled.

Did you by chance sign up to one of their discount offers but forgot to cancel?

Presumably you've cancelled all future boxes?

What happened to the box you received? Did you reject it? Or accept it?

What does your contract say regarding cancellation? Did you follow the required steps? Share the details here.

It's not an ombudsman matter.  What matters are the answers to the questions above.  If you failed to cancel in time and used or disposed of the contents, I don't see why they shouldn't be charging you.

What exactly happened?  Exact dates and actions are important if we're to tell you what rights you have.

    How did you cancel it?

If I were a betting man my guess would be you cancelled the payment but not the subscription, some people oddly think they are one and the same thing but they're not and I'm sure if your employer just stopped paying you and explained that they assumed you'd know you'd been fired when your wages weren't paid you'd be equally aggrieved.

Which ombudsman do you think covers grocery subscriptions? Its typically only regulated industries that have compulsory ombudsman and any other one is voluntary so naturally has conflicts of interest etc. There used to be the "retail ombudsman" but they were instructed to drop the ombudsman from the title as they were not meeting the standards required to use the title. They are still going but now list themselves as an Alternative Dispute Resolution service rather than ombudsman.
