Hi, we are paying Sky £145 a month (after negotiation) for fibre broadband (which constantly drops and they can't find the issue), a free telephone package (we don't use the phoneline except for the broadband, no phone plugged in), a sky signature, multi room, sky Q, sky cinema (not fussed with this). We've decided the price doesn't warrant the viewing and we've recently been watching streaming services on 4 and iplayer more than the sky stuff. But looking into other options it's totally baffling. Have tried to look into Apple TV 4K, NowTV, but there are mixed opinions. Can anyone recommend a stable streaming service and broadband that doesn't cost as much as Sky? Thank you.

Does the broadband drop, or does the wifi drop?

Buy them separately, use the MSE broadband comparison tool to find the best deal available to you, or the TopCashback one to get cashback. You should probably be paying £20-30 a month for a full fibre connection that will likely be more than you need.

In terms of streaming, you have iPlayer, which is nominally free, but requires you paying for a TV license, Netflix is probably top tier, Disney+, Prime and Paramount second tier and then the likes of Apple, Now etc. all third tier offerings.

You can pick and choose, do you want 4k is probably the biggest choice to make, if you are happy with 1080p then they all offer cheaper packages. If you want to be properly MSE then just enable one at a time, so have Netflix for a couple of months, watch what you want on there, cancel your subscription, watch Disney+ for a month etc. If you are not bothered about iPlayer and are getting rid of live TV then you can save yourself the cost of the TV license as well.

You need to separate the service and the device...

Personally use an AppleTV device as it integrates well with other Apple devices we own but also have an Amazon FireStick for when travelling long term as its smaller and runs off usb power. With both you can use the devices without any subscription for their respective services (AppleTV+ and Prime Video), Google, Roku and Nvidia all also offer options.

Separate to that there is the question of what services you want such as Prime Video, AppleTV+, Netflix, Paramount, Disney+, NowTV to name but a few. We are an Amazon Prime subscriber for free deliveries so get Prime Video with Ads at no extra cost, similarly for AppleTV+ I probably wouldnt subscribe to either long term were it not bundled but may subscribe for a month every 6 or such to catch up on new releases.

For long term subscription Netflix is probably one of the better ones. For others dip in and dip out. If you are tech savvy you can also subscribe to overseas services and we occasionally pay $7 to subscribe to Peacock because they have a couple of new blockbuster movies that are still in the cinema here plus gives some additional sports and then watch other stuff from them for the rest of the month.

If you like the set up you have then Virgin Media also do similar but tend to be much cheaper for new customer deals and sometimes renewal deals if you are lucky but iy could be an option?
