Yorkshire Building Society online - given up!

I have found trying to proceed with opening a Cash ISA with YBS online so frustrating that I have chosen NOT to proceed in the end.

Both when opening the account and then attempting to transfer funds in to the account the online forms disappeared mid-process from the screen on a number of occasions. I was left having to make telephone calls to check whether or not a transaction had actually happened or been registered. I gave up trying to transfer funds in(don't they want my money?) as on several occasions the online procedure was refusing to accept correct information I had provided to it.

I reached a page saying my transfer request was complete and yet YBS had no idea which account I wanted to transfer funds from. All it knew was the name of the building society I wanted to transfer from and the amount I wanted to transfer. Further calls required to check what had happened - during one of which I was cut off after having been on hold for some time.

Not only was the last advisor I spoke to very understanding and helpful but she pointed out to me that at least some YBS customers are having difficulty transferring funds out of a YBS account. Something I have read about on another thread in this forum.

I guess I am just wondering if others have had similar problems with YBS online and also flagging this up for those who might be considering one of its products.

Probably unrelated but I had trouble transferring OUT from YBS to Natwest because the NatWest online transfer did not list Yorkshire BS just Yorkshire Bank which I accidently selected. Had to do a paper ISA transfer and that worked ok.

I am an existing YBS customer so this may be the reason why my experience was very different. I opened a YBS ISA on Friday in less than a minute , in the app. Though I then had to wait until Saturday before I could request my transfers-in. I had to do this in online banking as they don’t support transfers-in in the app. I was very positively surprised that they allow multiple transfers-in as I am consolidating 3 ISAs. They also state that they expect to complete the transfers within 5 working days but this clearly depends on the old provider to cooperate accordingly.

I am very pleased with this experience so far. To add, I have been very happy with their online banking and their app for a number of years. Never had an ISA transfer out of YBS so far, but plenty of other withdrawals which always worked without a hitch.
