cancelling a seat on easyjet, any chance of getting anything back?

Hi, i've trawled through a lot of the previous topics but i can't see anything close enough to may situation. I booked return flights for my family and my sons girlfriend to Majorca in the summer.
My son and his girlfriend have subsequently split up. She won't be coming with us.
As far as i can see on Easyjets site there is little chance of getting your money back? Is there any options for me out there?
I have travel insurance with LV but its really difficult to contact them, particularly their travel insurance arm? I'm struggling to see if theres any way claiming through them?
i've emailed both, but so far i've been met by a stony silence!
thank you for your time

you should be able to reclaim the APD of £15 - Easyjet do not charge a fee for claiming.
I really doubt any travel insurance policy would cover relationship breakups.
Your only hope on a refund for the flight is if Easyjet cancel the flight or it is rescheduled significantly.
You could maybe investigate the cost of a name change for someone to go in her place.2 -
EasyJet won't refund except where there are serious medical reasons for cancelling.
Travel insurance won't cover relationship breakdown as an insured risk, so that won't be an option either.
Reselling might be an option but is against their Ts & Cs so definitely not recommended:

Looking at their site (easyjet). Unless this was within 24hrs you've zero hope.
Travel insurance is very specific for cancellation refunds. Bereavement being the biggest, i suspect they'll be a no go too.
However easyjet does let you change names so if he gets a new girlfriend or wants to bring a friend that maybe possible for a fee....2 -

If you did include her on the policy then read the Cancellation section of the policy book which will tell you which perils are covered, I've never seen one that covers breakdown of a relationship but I cannot claim to have read every policy book out there. It would be very hard to evidence a breakdown or the lack of one which is one of the reasons why insurers dont.
Is there anyone else that could take her place? May be a smaller loss than cancelling.
Other than that then your only rights are to the tax element of the flight. Depending on how you booked agents may charge an admin fee for recovering the taxes from Easyjet and it's not uncommon for the fees to wipe out any return.1 -
Thanks, it's as i suspected. But i thought it worth asking.
i'd hoped they get back together but he's not doing much about reconciling not finding a replacement.

As another poster said it's worth leaving the booking for now rather than cancelling. If there's a flight cancellation or significant schedule change that would open up a refund option.
Also means you have a name change option if someone else wished to go. You can still claim the APD refund later on if no one travels.1 -
Just a thought - if the OP cannot get a refund for cancelling the ticket, can they turn up with the one passenger missing but still avail of that passenger's luggage allowances and have the spare seat on the plane?0

The seat could go either way depending on if there is anyone on standby who would be sold the seat when the original passenger fails to appear.0 -
