Universal credit transitional protection payment.

Hello there, Im currently working but also claim Universal credit and PIP, my son is 19 and starts university in September but will still be living at home full time, I realise that this means I will no longer qualify for child benefit and the child element of universal credit but I wondered if this change would affect my transitional protection payment? Ive researched this and some places say yes and others say no. Its confusing. Also, he will be getting maintenance grant to go towards living cost and will be giving me a small amount of this, will it affect my income/universal credit payments? Many thanks in advance.

It shouldn't because your UC entitlement will reduce with the removal of child element.
Only things that increase your UC award would effect TP.
Money given from your son for household expenses won't be counted as your personal income.
Do you have another dependant child on your claim?

Ah, I did wonder but some sources have said that now I no longer have a dependant child (Only have the one) its a significant change in my circumstances to affect the TP. I'm guessing the housing element I receive will also go down?0

Your Housing Element should remain the same because you are still entitled to the same number of bedrooms.
Are you familiar with the work allowance?
As you will no longer have a dependent child on the claim your work allowance will end.
This means the deduction from your earnings will increase.

I was under the impression that my son is now expected to cover a share of the rent so I thought the amount I'm awarded would go down. I'll have to look into the work allowance, I didnt think about that, I claim PIP and work 20 hours a week, which they are happy with as long as I continue to provide a fit note from the doctor every two months.0

No non dependant deductions are made to Housing Element until your son is 21.
If you get Daily Living PIP then no non dependant deductions will be made to your Housing Element full stop.
So after he is 21 if still at home there still wouldn't be a deduction.

Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated0

Just so you know, if you have a WCA and it's decided you have LCW or LCWRA, you would keep the work allowance.1

Its strange because I'm in the fit for work category despite having a fit note and them agreeing to 20 hours a week, I just checked and my work allowance is £404 a month, I cant find any information where it says this could be lowered?0

You have a work allowance because of the dependant child on your claim. The only other way to qualify for a WA is through being awarded LCWRA or LCW after a Work Capability Assessment.
