Aer Lingus compensation not paid

Options
Hi,
I had a flight from Chicago to Newcastle on aer Lingus, the flight was to Dublin then a connecting flight to Newcastle. The first flight was delayed by just under 3 hours because they had to change a tyre and then they had underestimated the weight of the luggage and had to add fuel. When we arrived in Dublin late it meant I missed my connecting flight to Newcastle. They rescheduled a flight to London then Newcastle. I arrived in Newcastle 11 hours later than I should have after having to wait around for the flight they arranged.
I applied for compensation on March 11th 2025 and since then every time I call they say the manage has it and I should hear back in the next few days and I don’t hear back. What are my next steps as they are quite obviously dodging the payout.

8 weeks is not unusual for Aer Lingus! If they were members of an alternative dispute resolution service , I would advise to start there, but they are not and  think it is premature to start legal action, so my advice is probably to hold fire at the moment

My experience of Aerlingus/Emerald airlines is that they just ignore you in the hope you will go away.
And they have a hopeless/inept CS team.
8 weeks on? They probably haven't even looked at/opened your email/claim.
I ended up going to CAA PACT, Took forever  but we got there in the end (10 months...)
Legal action is difficult as Aerlingus are obviously Eire based.  The Irish small claims/legal system is VERY different to UK.

  • I have taken RyanAir to small claims in UK, I won but on appeal RyanAir got it dismissed on jurisdiction. However the opposition solicitor told me of a Ryanair office in Prestwick so a court in Ayrshire would have jurisdiction. So, find an Aer Lingus office in London? Then you can threaten them with a small claims action there. Sometimes the threat will move them, sometimes they may play hardball going nose to nose until court day.

Ryanair UK and Ryanair DAC are two separate companies and legal entities. If your flight is operated by Ryanair DAC, you cannot commence action in the UK as they have no office.

You don't have the same issue with Aer Lingus.
