Carpet moths seem to be becoming more of a problem than they used to be. Our wool carpets were attacked around the same time as my parents, about ten years ago. I’ve also heard friends say they’ve had an attack.

If I was starting from scratch I’d have hard flooring and wool rugs, and no carpet under furniture.

Over many years you and anyone else in the family including kids and pets will be breathing in a lot of those fibres. Would you rather they were natural wool ones or man made ones? I'd go for wool.
You can not leap to the conclusion that breathing in wool fibres is better than breathing in man made ones. It could well be more dangerous, although I suspect the danger from either is minimal.
Remember asbestos is also a natural material.

    Wool
We have wool carpets in every room apart from kitchen diner where we have manmade fibre. the wool carpets have been down 20 years and are still in good condition, although We may need to think about replacing the hall, stairs and landing one as the the stairs carpet is stating to show wear. The kitchen diner will be replaced later this year as it’s really showing its age.

We did have carpet moth in one of the bedrooms, but spotted it early on when doing our bi-annual carpet cleaning/steam cleaning and got it treated before it could spread.

I didn't know that carpet moths attacked parents as well as carpet!
