Hello!
I needed a secondary SIM and so eventually I decided to go with giffgaff.
This is on pure PAYG with top up by voucher but the issue is that they don't give missed calls notifications!! (yes, how very 19th century but this is across the board). This is causing me major problems to say the least and so I'm now having to look for alternatives so any suggestions would be most welcome.
I'm not bothered about internet connectivity, just calls and texts with missed call notifications. I ONLY want standard PAYG and not any monthly rolling SIM deals etc as I have EE for that.
TIA for any advice.

Just to be sure what you mean by a "missed call notification"?

When I ring my O2 Classic PAYG and don't answer then I get a notification on the phone of a missed call from me.

I think this notification is coming from the caller app rather than O2, although there is a status message from O2 (think it's a USSD message) giving the PAYG balance.

Is this what you mean or something else?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear but it's when someone calls but hangs up before it goes to the beep to leave a voicemail.
Unlike with the main 4 networks, there's no 'missed call' text message notification although it can be set up for voicemail messages only.
Giffgaff do not have a facility for missed call notifications and a bit of subsequent digging might suggest that nor do any of the other MVNO's. Whether this is a restriction from o2 who they piggy-back off or if indeed this is the case with all MVNO's regardless of which network they use, I simply don't know.
I just wondered if anyone else as had any experience of this to point me in a different direction that's all.
    Hope that's made sense!

Seems that what you are describing is Abandoned Call Alert - activated if a call is not answered and doesn't go to voicemail.

Have a look here for O2

    https://www.o2.co.uk/help/products-and-services/o2-services-and-apps/o2-call-alert

Seems to work on PAYG but I'm not going to muck with the settings on my account to check it out fully.

My OH is on GiffGaff and her phone shows missed calls, which is a function of the phone itself.

Or do you mean notification of a voicemail?

    Thanks for the reply.
It's missed calls and it's not the phone (Samsung A25, Android 14), as everything's fine with EE.
It only started a few days ago and I've not been able to resolve it since. Cleaned the SIM, reset the network settings, double-checked all settings for the SIM etc, but I've just discovered something far, far worse.
If the phone or SIM are turned off, when the number is called you get the 'number not recognised ' message. I can make calls, send texts, but this is the final nail. I give up!

If you don’t mind your phone also being on the EE network, 1p Mobile have some better value deals than GG at the moment (more roaming data than GG, roaming in Channel Is, etc. if that matters to you).

GG have an app, whereas 1p rely on using a web site.

Currently £10/month (no contract, same as GG) gets you 50 GB and unlimited mins, 14 GB roaming. Maybe not so good value if only using minimal calls/data.

Thanks for the suggestion but that had already been checked. However the issue still remains that when the SIM is turned off (which would be most of the time) there are no missed call notifications unless a voicemail is left.
So I've put the SIM in a second phone with it left turned on so if I'm not available to take a call I will then at least get a notification if they hang up without leaving a message. Not the solution I would have preferred but I can live with it.

I am genuinely curious why you turn the sim off - or do you mean the mobile is left powered down for periods if time.

It must mean the phone is switched off - don't know how you'd turn a SIM off
