Due to travel Malaga - Belfast last Mon night - booked with OntheBeach - flight cancelled stranded in airport - no support assistance from Ryanair other than being handed a piece of paper about how to claim compensation - spent the night in airport with two young children - nightmare - Ryanair told us to
sort our own way home as no flights available for several days - I booked a flight Malaga to Dublin £1200 for the 4 of us the following day - Coach then to Belfast -£50 - food £100
contactef Onthe beach who said Ryanair’s responsibility - trying to recoup new flight costs Ryanair website said due to circumstances beyond their control we cannot claim the cost of flights - please has or is anyone else going through this that can offer advice - thank you

You presumably have travel insurance.
Given the nature and scale of the incident. Unsure what you expected Ryanair to do for you at a personal level at the time.2 -

This was a flight out of an EU country, so your rights under EU261 would apply. You are entitled to (i) rerouting and (ii) care. Ryanair are obliged to pay the cost of your replacement flight and coach journey: claim this from them as "rerouting". They would also have been obliged to pay for a hotel for the night that you chose to spend in the airport, and are obliged to pay for the food that was necessary during the delay: these expenses are termed "care".
You should claim from Ryanair directly, and be sure to use the correct words. Do not ask for "compensation": the power cuts were clearly not their fault and so no compensation is due, and if you use the wrong word they will simply explain that they are not required to pay compensation rather than processing your claim for rerouting and care.2 -

As above, the airline also has liabilities in these circumstances, but if the flights were part of a package it's handy to have the option of effectively having a choice of who to claim from (without double-dipping of course)....1 -
My daughter had/has a similar issue. She was supposed to fly from Madeira to London, Monday evening. The flight was cancelled when they were on the plane.
To cut a long story short, she was handed the exact slip of paper you were. She phoned the number - next flight they could give her was in six days time! They said to book her own flight, and to claim back expenses from Ryanair. Her new flight cost €600!!! It was the only flight to London, with seats left, the next day. You can also claim for food, hotel, and transport. She had massive trouble submitting expenses, but eventually found a form on the ‘my Ryanair’ bit of the app. I think she clicked on ‘more’ and a bunch of other things came up, and somewhere was a form. You need to be very careful, as some of the Ryanair staff were encouraging people to get ‘refunds’. If you get a refund for your flight, they will not pay back expenses or compensation, so don’t ask for a refund! Ask for ‘reimbursement of expenses’.They make it so difficult to claim, they want you to give up and not bother.I hope you get success.0
