First Class Signed For letter issue

OP have you contacted RM to ask if there are any internal scans that don't show up on the public tracking info?  If there are that might at least indicate how far it got.  I don't know if they'd look for it though, a few years ago you used to be able to ask them to but I don't know if any staff have the time to spare to do that any more.

The OP doesn't mention if it had any value or if they have proof of postage off the counter. Are prompted to send it quicker and securely at a higher cost. Doesn't sound like an average letter to me.

It was a one-page letter to my sister and of £0 value except personal value in that I wanted her to receive it, read what I'd written and respond to questions about our late mother. You get proof of postage and a tracking number but after 3 weeks I phoned RM and was told it was 'lost' and to submit a claim to recover postage. I claimed online and have received an email saying they are sending me 8 x 1st class stamps as compensation. I said I still want to send the letter and was advised to send it 24/48 hr tracked as has been suggested on here.

A basic letter just add a 1st class barcoded stamp, take this into your post office or sub post office ask for a proof of postage free service that will provide a receipt providing house number and postcode.

They was totally wrong to advise the service to you correctly costing you unnecessary charges.

OP wants actual proof of delivery, not assumed proof as per the interpretation act with proof of posting. Signed for doesn't always work but tracked is generally more reliable giving an indication of where the item is and is scanned on delivery. So likely the correct advise to meet the op's requirements.

Signed delivery isn't guaranteed; hence, the OP was pointed to using Large Letter 24/48, in the future and it seems the counter staff suggested Special Delivery. £8.15 

IMO 

I can only see that they were advised to send it tracked, which RM48 or RM 24 would be, I see no mention of a guaranteed next day delivery advised.

OP states £8+ I don't think it could be anything other than special Delivery they were offered by the Post Office @Soolin what else would they have?

The saga goes on....RM website says it's been delivered but when I insert the recipient's postcode to view proof of delivery I get 'Access denied'
