This is only a letter not a parcelTimeLord1 said:A tracked label is best; you can see everything from start to finish, and the buyer can see that they'll attempt delivery on the stated day and time plus photo evidence.
24-48 Drop off or collection will cover the process.
My motto is don't sell anything you're not prepared to lose.0 -
You can but for a personal letter, not a sold item, seems a bit OTT when they purport to already offer a service to ensure confirmation of delivery (i.e. Signed For, here, which does have a tracking number).TimeLord1 said:Doesn't matter you can still use that service. 100g As Large Letter.
OP have you contacted RM to ask if there are any internal scans that don't show up on the public tracking info? If there are that might at least indicate how far it got. I don't know if they'd look for it though, a few years ago you used to be able to ask them to but I don't know if any staff have the time to spare to do that any more.0 -
No but they do say it's a personal letter without material value.TimeLord1 said:
The OP doesn't mention if it had any value or if they have proof of postage off the counter. Are prompted to send it quicker and securely at a higher cost. Doesn't sound like an average letter to me.Spoonie_Turtle said:

"I wrote to the addressee about 6 weeks ago asking them for information and to simply contact me by text/whatsapp/email/phone even if they didn't have the information I requested."
Sure in the future they might choose to send anything similar tracked as a large letter, after this experience, but it wasn't unreasonable to expect they'd receive the service they originally paid for.0 -
Just seems odd to me that the counter employee would ask is it important and suggest a high inflated price to send a letter. If it was a sub post office then they get a small percentage profit off a label.Spoonie_Turtle said:

It was a one-page letter to my sister and of £0 value except personal value in that I wanted her to receive it, read what I'd written and respond to questions about our late mother. You get proof of postage and a tracking number but after 3 weeks I phoned RM and was told it was 'lost' and to submit a claim to recover postage. I claimed online and have received an email saying they are sending me 8 x 1st class stamps as compensation. I said I still want to send the letter and was advised to send it 24/48 hr tracked as has been suggested on here.0 -
A basic letter just add a 1st class barcoded stamp, take this into your post office or sub post office ask for a proof of postage free service that will provide a receipt providing house number and postcode.kuepper said:TimeLord1 said:

They was totally wrong to advise the service to you correctly costing you unnecessary charges.1 -
OP wants actual proof of delivery, not assumed proof as per the interpretation act with proof of posting. Signed for doesn't always work but tracked is generally more reliable giving an indication of where the item is and is scanned on delivery. So likely the correct advise to meet the op's requirements.TimeLord1 said:

Signed delivery isn't guaranteed; hence, the OP was pointed to using Large Letter 24/48, in the future and it seems the counter staff suggested Special Delivery. £8.15molerat said:
