OK I would use those photos (but add TIME/DATE metadata to them all) and do a POPLA appeal about breaches of the BPA CoP on signage/entrance signs

    ...and also state this:
I am fairly certain that we did put our details into the tablet at the venue but may have made a keying error or put in the wrong VRN (different family car), but we were paying customers of the venue attached to the FREE CAR PARK. They should of at the very least given us an opportunity to pay at a reduced rate of £20 for a keying error.

State clearly the VRM of the other vehicle that the family use and say that if CEL disagree that it was a VRM error (either typo or paying for VRM XXXXXXX by mistake) they will have to prove that by supplying a partially redacted VRM list from that day, such that any near-matches or partial VRMs are shown, including the other vehicle if it is listed (only redacting all the matched and unrelated VRMs).

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks for the advice COUPON MAD, however "what if" i didn't put in the VRN (the other family car with us didn't get a ticket so they must have done it right),  i just think that i did ,  how could anyone ever prove that i did or didnt ?, its just a tablet, it could be wrong and maybe i didn't press enter or whatever, (you don't get issued with a "permit" even though the PCN states (Failed to obtain a permit" and the signs say you must "obtain a permit" yet no receipt or confirmation is given)  what is for certain is that i did go into the venue that the free car park is for. Maybe we put in the same VRN twice ( ie 2 cars went in but we only put in one VRN)....

Just put them to proof, like I said.

Doesn't matter if people lose at POPLA. Makes no odds because nobody pays these scams. Don't overthink it.

Do as @Coupon-mad suggests BUT do change that awful grammar mistake - as indicated.
