Love holidays cancellation policy

Hi Please can you help my son booked a holiday to Dubi through love holidays and needed to cancel it due to financial reason so he emailed love holidays and they said before he cancels he has to pay the remainder of the balance for the flights before he could cancel. This has now left my son in debt.
But surly asking him to pay for the whole of the flights before he cancels is wrong the company is getting twice as much money for the two seats on the plane meaning he's paid for the seats and they are going to sell them again to get double for the seats? The cost of the flight was £1089 and he only has £47 to pay before we can cancel. is this right???
Many thanks for your time.....

It probably is stated somewhere in their T&Cs.  And it's a big amount so maybe look for an alternative like selling the holiday to someone else.   Is there a friend or family member who might want to go instead?  In that case it might be cheaper to change the name on the holiday and hopefully recoup a bit of the ticket price.

The place to start is the documented Ts & Cs on the company's website, where the cancellation policy will be defined - what the company does with previously-booked seats after cancellation is irrelevant....

Cancelling for financial reason may not be a option depending on the terms of the holiday you booked, unless it has free cancellation.

This is where you cancel the holiday and it tells you how much it will cost:

Hi i understand regarding cancelling the holiday but making someone pay the full amount for the flights before they can cancel is a bit unfair

From the website- fair or not it is common for flights to be non refundable.

What is the cost of cancelling my holiday?

Before you begin the cancellation process, it’s worth knowing that:

    • All flights are non-refundable from the point of booking – this means that you will not receive a refund for the flight portion of your booking.
    • Some hotels are refundable, while others may charge a cancellation fee. If you booked a non-refundable room, you won’t receive a refund when cancelling.
    • All transfers are non-refundable from the point of booking.
    • Travel insurance can be cancelled within 14 days of booking for a full refund, provided you have not yet travelled, made a claim or plan to make a claim.
    • Ancillaries, like car parking and airport lounges, may be eligible for a refund but are dependent on the supplier’s booking terms.

On top of airline and accommodation cancellation fees, you’ll also be charged £75 per booking, or £25 for hotel-only bookings (as outlined in our terms and conditions), to cover the cost of us processing your cancellation. Unfortunately, these fees cannot be discounted.

The flights will have been non-refundable and this would have been notified at the time of booking.  LoveHolidays have likely paid the airline so if they don't charge your son then they will be out of pocket.

I would definitely be clarifying what if any of the money is going to be repaid if your son cancels. Anyone can cancel a holiday, so Love holidays is correct in saying it can be cancelled, but that doesn’t mean your son will get anything back at all.

However the paying the balance comment is an entirely different matter, that is likely to be due in full if that’s what the original t and cs said. Then at the point the holiday is fully paid, it can be cancelled, but potentially with no refund being made. If the balance isn’t paid then your son could well be pursued for the money. However, getting details of what refund would be due in writing from LH before paying anything further would be a good idea.
