spl one member of the forum took a photo of their house and blacked it out when ever they pay a certain amount off their mortgage a part of the black and white photo gets rubbed off and a part of the house is revealed a very smart and personal idea one that i think would really help me but i just dont have a clue on how to do it hope that helps0

wheelies i wouldnt worry about how much you can or cant afford at the end of the day it's all money that you will be saving in interest0

Another Lurker turned member here.
At the end of last year we switched to a One Account and moved all savings/endowments/investments into the One Account and have reduced the mortgage from £105000 to £67000.
Target for this year is to over pay by a slightly ambitious £12000

I've been a lurker on here for over a year but only registered yesterday.
I will be aiming to overpay by £343.20 in 2008. I know this looks a small amount but it is all I can afford (£28.60 per month).
With the £2 coins and the mortgage pig (old coffee jar!) it should be more.

Have you opened a cashback account with quidco? If not, go to quid.com and open an account. Then before you purchase anything on the internet, check to see if the retailer is on quidco's list of retailers, if they are, purchase your goods via quidco.com and you will receive cashback on your purchases, usually only a few pence or a couple of quid but it does mount up over the year (quidco pay you monthly). Then use this money to make additional overpayments on your mortgage. You may already know all this in which case my apologies.Mortgage start date: 21 July 2006

great minds must think alike i was sitting looking at my online mortgage account and wondering how i can make extra payments what am i gonna do etc then had a wee wander over to my current account and saw a payment for the pricely sum of £4.31 paid into my account and i was sitting thinking where did that mony come from what's it for thenit hit me it's my quidco for the month so realising it is extra money that i hadnt budgeted for it went straight to the mortgage ok it aint much but it works out (i think) approximately half a days interest that the bank will charge me today which when i think its money that i wasnt expecting and it has effectively halved todays amount of interest i have to find i am happy ...does that make sense to anyone or am i rambling again lol0

Hello all, is there room for another lurker / newbie?
I've been planning to start overpaying my mortgage since I took it out in November 2006, but so far have managed a grand total of £0!! Think I need some serious motivation.
My aim is to pay off an extra £2k before the interest free period ends in November 08, so an overpayment of £200 per month. Have been filling in the budget planner all day, and I should have this spare every month after all expenses, but I never seem to have any left over come payday. I feel a spending diary coming on!
Good luck to everyone new and old on reducing their mortgages, and I look forward to hearing about everyone's progress!

After working out the benifits me and my partner are planning on going for this in a big way.
We have a £90000 mortgage and would like to pay it off in 7 years, any earlier will be a real bonus :beer:0 -
