Im just in the process of sorting out our family finances thanks to this great site and one item on the list is trying to get rid of our mortgage quicker :)

Our mortgage is £52500 and our target for the remainder of this year would be to pay off £3000 if possible :)

Got to keep fit and healthy even though cutting costs down in other areas.

I can give my August totals already because I've OP by £1,323.69. I'd like to round it up to £1,500 but things are quite close to the wire this month after going away for the weekend and spending a bit too much. Never mind OH gets paid next week and then it's a whole new MF month :)

Well I've finally had the redemption figure for my current mortgage, and have just done a bank transfer of *gulp* £12,134.83 to the solicitors to cover the shortfall. I think I need a lie down now... :o

My completion date is next Monday, so I'll be updating my sig when it's all gone through.

I think that's me done for overpayments for this month!

Well my Dp and myself have decided to start overpaying our mortgage. We have £64,000 to pay with 20 years left. If we can manage to half the time we have on this we will both be ecstatic.
Mortgage overpayments 2008 (started August) £300
  • Hi, I'm new here and have already been mortgage free once. That was over ten years ago when we had two incomes and no kids.

Since a major extension on our property (was cheaper than moving) we took out a £42K mortgage and have been in a position to overpay by £150 per month only for the last year - so £1200 so far this year.

Trouble is though, I don't want to skint ourselves (did that before but can't face it now, especially with the children) but I need to be much more imaginative in where I can find extra funds. I'm fairly frugal already.

    I need inspiration....and dosh...

Hi Sky-blue pink - over on the debt free wannabe board they have a monthly challenge called 'make £10 a day in xxxx(insert month)'. That's usually a really good source of ideas to bring in a bit of extra cash. You sound as though you are doing well already though if you have reduced your term to 9 years. :T

I sold my shares yesterday and should get the money through in the next couple of days - there is enough to pay off all of the secured loan and a little bit off the mortgage, taking my total mortgage to below £32k....woohoo!

Will update properly once I know the exact figures, but then I will have to set myself a new target. :D
