Sim only deals
I'm with ID mobile at the moment.MSE have some good deals better than what I have, I pay £7 per month for 15gb data unlimited text & mins. I think these deals on MSE are for newbies only as ID don't offer these deals directly.
Does anyone know if I am allowed to change to another provider for a month then return to ID mobile through MSE which should enable me to keep my number and get a better deal or do I have to be away longer than a month ?

I think you need to define what you really need. There are £10 “non contract” packages that avoid being stuck in a contract.
For example this is what you get with 1p Mobile:
EE network, which is the network chosen for the forthcoming Emergency Services Network (which should be a lot more reliable than Three and has far more 5G coverage).
50 GB of data, of which 14 GB can be used in the EU.
Unlimited UK calls and texts.
30 day rolling deal, which you can switch elsewhere without a problem. You can change the data amount every month if needed.
EU roaming + Channel Is, Isle of Man, Switzerland and a few others.
I personally need roaming in Jersey and a reliable network. I have been with Three but found their lack of battery backup disconcerting as the local site went down as soon as there was a mains failure. I am writing this from Spain where we lost the mobile network as soon as the mains failed yesterday, you really need a network built for resilience and Three were hopeless back when I left them.1 -
