Hi
Just back from Mallorca and have been billed an extra 231 Euros for reduced Excess Loss and Damage despite telling the guy at the desk we did not want it. We have our own cover.
My husband is raging. He has written to them saying we hire 4 times a year or more and never take this out. We are waiting for a reply to that. What would your next step be?

Raise it with your credit card company. You have your own loss/damage excess cover...which backs up your claim that declined the cover from the hire car company.Personally I've been using Hertz when I hire cars. I've never have issues like this with them1

If I were to take one guess, I would guess the OP rented with Goldcar?0

This is what they sent back with our first query. My husband has still to look at his email today.
We did do a prepaid option. I read elsewhere that Goldcar charge a premium location fee of 12% which is not included in the initial price and is only determined when the contract is finalised. It was not Goldcar though as jbrassy thought."We can see where this might seem confusing. We can see that you have added the reduced Excess Loss and Damage Waiver that was an additional 198.37 Euros and that by default increased the premium location fee as it is a percentage from the whole rental amount from 119.33 Euros to 151.07 Euros, the sum of these additions is 230.11 Euros, as you mentioned."
We have been charged the fee plus the premium location charge and they think this is explaining the situation when they billed us for something we said no to.
I thank you for the great advice.0 -
Do you have any documentation supporting your assertion that the extras were declined at the desk? I thought that the paperwork issued with the vehicle keys (whether in hard or soft copy form) usually clarified the basis of the rental and expected charges, etc?0
