ATM didn't give me long enough to retrieve the note. Company unhelpful.

They logically have to set the machines for a little over the average time it'll take people to take the money out. Leave it too long and it increases the risk of the money still hanging out of the machine when the customer has forgotten / moved away and a thief taking it. Some people will take much less than that time, some will take more.
They've done nothing wrong by setting a time and not leaving it out forever or not being a mind reader for how long that particular person will take.
Nothing wrong = no compensation. Perhaps companies being overly willing to give goodwill gestures has created an expectation but they don't have to.0 -

I am keen to detect if the amount of time ATMs give you to collect the money has been reduced stealthily. If others are having difficulty getting their money then it could point to a trend. If not then as some have said I will have to be even quicker next time. It is because I cannot prove one way or the other if the time has been reduced either intentionally or because of a glitch that I am asking the company to investigate further. They are resisting perhaps not surprisingly as of course they do not regard there as having been any big problem. They are not interested in what this experience felt like. Of course as the film Casablanca says this issue doesn't amount to a hill of beans given wars, famines, droughts and yesterdays power outage across Iberia it wasn't very pleasant last Wednesday. I posted in good faith especially to see others experiences. As I suggested in my post, this might be something happening to reduce the risk to users (the less time cash is left dangling out of a machine when the user walks off without taking it, the less chance someone else will grab it).If it is, then the providers may be coy about admitting it, or even talking about it, because doing so might be seen as a security issue. Criminals will work out for themselves that the money is left dangling for less time (it that really is the case), but the cash machine providers don't gain much by announcing it to them.

I'd suggest you are experiencing the spotlight effect - while you describe the sheer sense of humiliation you suffered, in reality I doubt anyone noticed, and if they did, they probably stopped thinking about it within seconds.
But you have mentioned several times that you were seeking compensation? If you're suggesting it's now not about money, what is it for? A counselling session? A cuddle? A letter apologising for the significant mental trauma you seemingly suffered from this minor inconvenience?epsilon4900 said:I was not suggesting that the Supermarket should reimburse me for the money that was withheld.

If the time was too short I am sure there would have been multiple complaints and the supermarket staff would've said "you're not the first"
No legislating for a bit of distraction or a senior moment.1 -

Just the same as any issue with an ATM, contact your bank in the first instance, they will liaise with the ATM operator (if that's a different company) and will sort it out. The staff at the supermarket probably don't even know who operates the ATM.With respect, you do seem to be making something of a mountain out of a molehill. You didn't take the cash, the machine retrieved it as per its programming, your bank refunded you. I fail to see what the issue really is.

Which has to be done by your bank.
ATM owner will tally the log & amounts up to either agree or not with your bank.
Happens all the time, so no need to get stressed over it. No one around would be bothered. Just the same if your card gets declined at a retailer.Life in the slow lane0 -
