Can you get a bathroom shaver socket that does not hum?

Since getting an electric toothbrush and leaving it plugged in all the time in the bathroom shaver socket, as recommended, the shaver socket hums.

During the day it is not noticeable, except in the bathroom, but during the night when in my bed I can hear it very faintly.

It took a while to figure out what it was as it is not a humming noise but a very faint vibration.

So can you get a shaving socket replacement for the bathroom or am I going to have to keep it plugged into a shaving adapter at the top of the stairs and occasionally kick it when I get up during the night?

Just unplug at night, it'll charge up enough during the day.

It shouldn't need to be plugged in all the time. I've a USB one, nothing special battery wise. It gets a charge once a fortnight, it's never actually gone flat and so I don't know whether it even needs that.

Your hearing must be good to be bothered by it but transformers hum. The mains in general hums at 50Hz.

The hum from a transformer is typically double the mains frequency.  Though the totality of the subject of 'hum' is a lot more complicated than that.

What exactly is more complicated (in terms of doubling the frequency)?

Shaver sockets are notorious for it toothbrush can likely go a couple of weeks between charge.

You don't need to leave it plugged in all the time only when it needs charging......maybe every couple of weeks. Then plug it in during the day......simples.

What is humming, the socket or the toothbrush charger? Are you sure? Ok, cool.
I understand that shaver sockets are permanently powered - always 'on' - so that would preclude the issue being caused by the insertion of the TB plug turning the shaver socket on.
So, that only leaves - I think - the hum being caused by it actually 'working' - ie, having power drawn from it. If so, that would cause me some concern, as I don't understand why a low-capacity rechargeable device would always be drawing power; surely it should charge up fully, and then stop?
Anyway, to answer your Q, yes, there are shaver sockets that don't hum - mine doesn't. You seem to have found a baddy.
Personally, tho', I wouldn't be happy having summat plugged in that is clearly always drawing power, even when it patently doesn't have to.

Almost everything with a mains tranformer will hum to a greater or lesser degree, it depends on the internal components used and how they are mounted

Modern electronic items tend to draw most of their current from the peak of the AC waveforms and this can also make buzzing worse as it can saturate the magentic core of the transformer. Magnetic field leakage from the transfomer can also cause nearby ferrous materials to vibrate too, and some will also resonate in the wall cavity which can make things worse. Few probably cared in the past as the razor was humming anyway).

We have a bathroom cabinet with an internal shaver socket that our toothbrush charge from and I can't say I have ever heard this buzzing, however I can hear the USB charger in the wall next to our bed which charges our phones, but as I can sleep through anything it doesn't cause me any issues.

Replacement shaver sockets only cost about a tenner, so could always just replace it as an experiment?
