Financial implications of moving in with elderly parent

Your mother doesn't need care, she just needs a little support. Be very wary if the former situation arises.
My mother can no longer take herself to the loo, dress or get herself in/out of bed. She can't cook or even make herself a drink. She can't travel anywhere unless in a wheelchair adapted vehicle.
I needed to look after her for two weeks a year ago and I felt like I was in prison. This was the eighth time I had to provide emergency care but this was very different from the last time.
I couldn't leave the house for longer than 30 minutes. I couldn't go to bed until after she was in bed (and that took over an hour). She liked to stay up in the wee, small hours whilst I am an early-to-bed and a 5a.m. riser. She wouldn't get up until midday. She refused to compromise her lifestyle to accommodate me. At the end of those two weeks I swore that I would never provide personal care for her again. I was exhausted and stressed.
I couldn't imagine not being able to escape to my own home.
Don't base your decision on the current situation. Things could change drastically.0
