Honda discrimination.

Well that got a response! It is Honda who restrict the colours, green and blue are meant to be available but when orderred suddenly are not there. It just seemed wrong that these colours are available at no cost when buying but not through motability. Red can be bought for a little extra.
Yes we looked at lease and PCPn but the motability scheme gives peace of mind with everything included.
Insurance for carers is not easy.

A quick look at Honda's configurator:

If you think that Motability offers better value, then you're just going to have to change your mind on the colour. TBH, the green is zero loss - I see one regularly, and it just looks like it's missing the military markings. I've not seen a blue one, but photos don't make it look great.
I don't see why Motability can't be both a commercial organisation AND a registered charity.0 -
The list for motability is. Sage green, Seabed blue, Crystal black, Urban grey and Sunlight white. But although the green and blue are available to cash buyers they are not available to Motability people. So they are in stock! We only found out after paying our deposit and ordering a blue one. We later got a call to say that blue and green were no longer available.
I then rang to cancel and get the deposit back. Next day they had found a blue one we could have!0 -
Are you talking about available for free via motability or as a paid for option? My understanding was that you could get any factory options/upgrades but you had to pay full price for them.
It could be that Motability has some restrictions from Honda down to the deal they have. Maybe they get a significant discount on purchase price but limited options. If that's the case then it's really no different to one of the other brokers and not discrimation. You'd just need to decide to settle for a different colour or buy something else.

I think all those colours are available at no extra cost, we have to pay £2499 up front plus any extras such as red colour, car mats, boot liner etc.
We haven't used Motability for over 20 years always buying older cars but as I said our costs, particularly insurance for carers etc. have risen dramatically so we thought we would try it.0 -

When I last leased a car (admittedly about 20 years ago), I found that opting for metallic paint on a BMW (extra £600-ish retail) actually reduced the monthly payments by about £5. This was because the residual values on cars with non-metallic paint were much poorer, by considerably more than the original £600. I'd have thought the same would apply today, though to a lesser extent on mass-market cars.

The way Motability works is that there's a menu of vehicles for the customer to "pay for" by sacrificing their PIP mobility payment. The only other element is an up-front payment that varies by vehicle.
The OPs anecdote about a blue one being available - then not being - then miraculously being available again confirms my suspicions... It's purely a stock levels thing. The colours that are available are what's in stock. You want anything else? It's coming on a boat from Japan.1 -
They only found a blue one after we cancelled and asked for our deposit back!0

How much is a new one, if you got the car for 3 year and then did it again in 3 years you will have paid £31,000.If nothing changes. Even after 6 year servicing, No road tax, insurance and a set of tyres, buying makes more sense.30k gets you a brand new one.£30,780 gets this one with 5 years of servicing included. But its grey. Few other colours.Even after all the costs a 6 year old Honda with low mileage will be worth, What 10-15k.What do you get back after 6 years, Let me think Nothing.I went through this with my late wife in 2016, We opted to buy new rater than Motability.Peugeot 5008 1.6 Bluehdi auto, pre reg 8 miles on the clock.£14.350, 10 years of servicing Main dealer service plans £1700.Extended warranty for 6 year so far £1850.Tyres £500Insurance £3000.So £21400 all in.9 years of Motability £27k ish Plus deposit £2500 I think it would have been.Motability & deposit £29500.00Take off costs £21400.00Leaves £ 8100.00 profit, over Motability on old figures.Car value today £ 7000.00I'm 15k ahead. If not a few thousand more in front.
