Are Acer desktop pcs any good?

A friend is recommending an offer currently on at Currys.

Is this brand thought to be ok, technically?

Yes they are very good quality and the value is excellent.
I cannot recommend them highly enough.
  • Right, can anyone else back up this opinion?

I have 3 acer desktop pcs running xp pro installed in an estate agency, they are on 24/7 365, they were installed November 2006 and have not had a problem with any of them. I also have an Acer laptop, and so do 2 of my friends all now over a year old and no problems on any of them.

Half the problems you get with any computer is how they are treated, especially laptops.

don't do it. My Acer laptop broke within a month , (and i treated it with kid gloves) , okay there will always be laptops that break from every company , but why do Acer have 120 posts on the board linked below , while other main brand computer companys are only just into double figures ???

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING !!!!

without a doubt the worst company i have ever dealt with , and i have dealt with british gas and NTL .i'm sure there are people who will recommend British Gas , because they have never had problems with them. probably because they have never had to deal with them . well i have dealt with them and i did have problems , which is when i found out what sort of couldn,t care less now we have your cash company they are

if you buy one , just prey it does not break . unless you consider like Acer does 3 months to have your computer returned reasonable ( this is what they tell thier staff !!). of course that 3 months will also be 3 months less of your warranty if you get it back working. and they can then offer you a reduced settlement if you push for a refund.

be warned ... i'm not spamming , i'm not an employee of a rival company , i'm a genuie money saving poster giving you advice , based on my own personal experiance with Acer

    your choice

I have 2 Acer Desktops, both have performed well with no problems, they are both very well engineered well.

I personally wouldn't buy at Currys or PCWorld ( same group ).

Oh and I should take the post from "trets77 " with a pinch of salt, he seems to have a personal vendetta with Acer.;)

From what I understand they are just as likely to fail as any other brand are.

I have a Patriot desktop that had a motherboard issue. The engineer came out under warranty and replaced it - no issues there.

Desktops on the whole seem to be less problematic than laptops, as they don't get abused, and they tend to be repaired on site under warranty, rather than disappear for up to 6 weeks whilst they faf around with it
