1547 was 25/7/2024
we are waiting for the readings between then and November
2933 - 6/11/2024
4466 - 31/12/2024
5752 - 30/1/2025
6121 - 28/2/2025
6866 - 30/3/2025
7003 - 8/4/2025
he was paying SP £62.59 a month by direct debit but they say he should have been paying £270 a month
7003-1309 = 5694kWh over 7 and a bit months. Lets round it to 800kWh per month and assume 9600kWh usage over a year.
Next, lets assume 25p per kWh and 55p a day Standing charge (based on SVT). The bill for the year would be 9600 * £0.25 + 365 * £0.55 = £2600, so around £215 a month.
There was a large energy usage over the months of December 2024 and January 2025 (1500kWh and 1300kWh respectfully - a significant part of the overall usage). Did someone leave the heating on?
If he was only paying £62.59/month, he would have been building up a debit balance to someone.0 -
Catr1na said:victor2 said:That is not outrageous electricity usage for an all electric flat through winter - 4070 kWh in 153 days. How much has he paid Scottish Power in total, and what does the £750 cover? Look at the tariff he was on to see if it adds up.
(7003-2933)*.25+(150 days * 0.55) = £1100
Which might account for the £750 debit he's being told now?0 -

For an all-electric property, Ofgem considers that annual Low usage is 2200kWh, Medium is 3900kWh and High is 6700kWh. Over 9 months, 9 days he's used 5694kWh so it looks like he's going to end up as a High user. That's not impossible, but if he lives alone it seems a bit improbable unless it's very poorly insulated or has high ceilings, he sets the room temperature to roasting, leaves the heating on all day or takes lots of long hot showers. It would be worth making some checks.
- On the bills, are the readings shown as Smart or Estimated? Estimated bills cause problems. The only time that they are acceptable is on the 1st of the month when there's been a tariff change because of the price cap: the energy company will make an estimate based on the meter readings immediately before and after the 1st. If the smart meter is not communicating then he will need to insist on accessing the meter every month (supervised if necessary), taking manual readings and sending them to his supplier.
- Check that the serial number printed on the meter is the same as that on shown on the bill.
- Do the Meter Sanity Check. He could be paying for a neighbouring family's usage !
Please come back and tell us the outcome.Edit: Link corrected.0 -
