Probate grant mistake (theirs)
Comments

I think I’d really make an issue if this with the Probate Office - an official complaint if necessary. The grants of probate are public documents anyone can buy a copy of so I would insist they change the figure to the correct amount. Otherwise people might think the beneficiaries have hit the big time!2

I would keep complaining or write a letter of complaint. I would insist the mistake is corrected.1

Thank you. I have emailed them. If no acceptable response I will have to resort to pen and paper0
-
Then I will be asking if anyone knows the complaints procedure0

Try contactprobate@justice.gov.uk, heading your email Complaint and give the reference number, or the name and date of grant?
If that doesn't work, write to you MP, reporting the responses you received and pointing out that there is no facility by which you can complain other than by phone, which isn't getting a useful response.
You don't need a DWP investigation into overpaid benefits, for example. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing1 -
It's possible the person you spoke to just gave the wrong answer so I suggest phoning them again. If you get the same "it doesn't matter" answer insist that it does matter and ask for it to be corrected and ask about their complaints procedure. I'm certain that if the error had been made by the OP then the PO would insist it is corrected.1
