I received a text on 23rd telling me to expect a call between 08:00 - 18:00 on 24th, the call did not come. Now I suspect this might be a scam. I have reported/forwarded the text to 60599 HMRC.
If this is a scam, we need HMRC to help us quickly with this issue, as many people are waiting for a call from them. Are we going to know whether it is HMRC or a scammer when we receive a call? We could land ourselves in real trouble giving out our details.
Sadly I couldn't get through to HMRC by phone, but will keep trying.
If anyone hears from HMRC and this is a scam, please let us know. These texts could be going out to millions of people, or perhaps HMRCs system sent them out in error and they were unable to fulfill the calls? But we need to be vigilant, these scammers are everywhere.
Is it HMRC making these calls 🤔

Most other posters are being called by DWP.

Some might be being called by scammers, and some by DWP, I really wouldn't know. I understand some people are receiving calls, but some are not, and some are being hung up on. It is an issue, especially when you cannot seem to call for help regarding this issue. So whilst some people might be fine and dandy, paying those gap years, some could potentially fall through the cracks and miss out due to a potential issue in the system.

Did you complete the callback request form? If so that was the DWP and it’s the DWP who will be contacting you. They will then look at your forecast and see if buying voluntary years will improve your pension. If it does the normally you’re passed to HMRC for your 18 digit reference number to allow you to pay by bank transfer. No money is asked for.

Did you not take a screenshot of your callback request form once submitted? People were being advised to do so for their own record.

Thank you for your reply. I videoed putting the request in to HMRC, but I received no confirmation email or text. I could not apply online, I had to request a call back. I did this on the 10th March, so at the time of receiving this text, I thought it was real.

Just to help others with the issue of the text - I reported the text I received and HMRC have come back and stated the text is not from them.So there is an issue with a scam via text.

It's still not clear how you put in the callback request to HMRC I'm afraid. Did you phone HMRC or did you fill in the form that was made available online?

Sorry I realise I have confused the issue. Some were able to pay for gap years online, I was not and yes filled out the form to request a call back on the HMRC website. But I received no confirmation afterwards.

I'm not aware of any callback request form on the HMRC website. As far as I'm aware that form was on the DWP website.

I did it through the HMRC. I went on NI record, then check to see if you can pay gaps online. I could not and then it had a form to request a call back from the future pensions center.

I think you are getting confused.

Future Pension Centre is nothing to do with HMRC, it is part of DWP.

As the Future Pension Centre is part of the DWP, that is who will be calling you. The text that you keep calling a scam will also come from the DWP and is likely to be legitimate as others have posted here and elsewhere that this is what is happening.

I still requested the call through HMRC, so if it is the DWP calling and hanging up, or not calling, there is still an issue. Might not be a scam, but you still have to be careful, because some texts or calls could be a scam. The main issue was not receiving a call back, a lot of people will miss out paying gap years if they don't get the call. That is happening. I have also read that someone received a call, but it hung up.

I think you would best argue all day with a mirror, rather than obsessively posting here to argue and doubt like you are judge and jury.
