Blimey, I haven't seen Royal Mail opening hours like that for YEARS!  Only of the 08:00-10:00 or 10:00-12:00 variety (but mostly 8-10) and slightly longer on a Saturday.

Ours is in the next town , open from 8am to 10 am.

Not convenient if you work office hours or have children to get out to school.

However routine posture just leaves on the doorstep, no ringing bells or knocking.

Parcel delivery guy does hand it in.

Amazon and Evri also hand it over and take a photograph if I am in. If not they leave it  hidden behind  the wheelie bin.

I'd say I still prefer this to the latter (e.g. Royal Mail leaving a slip which requires you to drive to the sorting office, which is always in Timbuktu, is only open between the hours of 10:15am and 10:17am on a Wednesday with no parking in a mile radius). Plus doing this inevitably increases cost.

If I'm honest, I actually prefer that things are left on the doorstep, it's the ultimate convenience (though I emphathise with the frustration when they don't bother ringing the doorbell!). I work during the day, so it means if it didn't happen like this, I'd only be able to receive items on weekends if I sat in all day.

If it bothers you, I'd recommend organising some form of outdoor safeplace for use.

A video doorbell is also handy as it alerts you when a delivery driver (not just Amazon, our Evri, Yodel and DPD guys do this as well) leaves stuff on the doorstep without ringing the doorbell.

This is just my view - of course I totally understand that someone that is retired/generally home all day would be frustrated with things being left outside the house for no reason.
    Ours is walking distance  :D

Lots of comments suggesting that items are often left on doorsteps without the bell being rung. Try being a delivery driver. Nobody replaces the battery on a doorbell any more. The amount of times I have had bad feedback to say I didn’t bother knocking on the door and just dumped the item. Do people honestly think drivers don’t knock or ring the bell? This is a wake up call to all people who believe their delivery driver didn’t check to see if you’re home. If you have a doorbell that is faulty or a dead battery, either remove it from the door/wall or replace it. You expect us to ring the bell, wait a minute and then knock on the door and wait another minute? 😂😂

I once received a picture of a pair of shoes seemingly being put through the letter box, I thought this was unlikely and was not surprised to see them sitting by the front door.

We have young grandchildren, and I can assure you that they test our doorbell several times a week!

Nevertheless, we all want our parcels delivered cheaply, and we don’t really want to pay for the delivery drivers to stand on our doorstep for a couple of minutes waiting for us to answer the door.

Can I ask how many deliveries you do on a typical day?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Approximately 160-200 a day. At a pace of around 22-27 parcels per hour, it is a long day. You don’t have time to be waiting for someone to finish their lunch to then answer the door. The customer gets a 1 hour time slot to expect the delivery within. If the door isn’t answered quickly then you must assume they haven’t bothered to leave a delivery note and leave it in a safe place. An extra minute waiting for each door to be answered can add 3 hours to the day
