It might just be worth talking to the Economic Abuse lead at the local police station? But he or his mate can only repay you if there is money to be accessed. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing2

Thank you I will look into this. There is over £160,000 equity in the property due to all the renovations I paid for.0

Good luck with your endeavours, I fear that the outcome will not be good. Take care of yourself first and foremost.0 -
I know because although the mortgage is in his friends name, my ex pays the mortgage directly to the mortgage company and not long before we split up he had the house valued as I was going to take out a mortgage on the house and buy it from him, due to my financial input. Thank you I will take care of myself and I agree the outcome does not look promising and I know I need to ready myself for that outcome which is very hard.0

You mention that ex has 2 names. Have you tried googling those names see if any other fraudster stories come up? Id be surprised if there wasnt other victims besides yourself.
Have the police taken an interest in your story cos they may wish to speak to him if others have made complaints.
Finally and most importantly are you receiving therapy for what youve gone through?0 -
Yes that's when things started to fall apart and i started discovering things were not as they seemed. I have been to the police about it, he has been in prison for fraud and armed robbery. He told me he had come back from spending 8 years in canada training special forces when i met him. Not that he had just got out of prison for fraud after absconding the country on his brothers passport and being deported from canada to prison here.

You have(or had) a solicitor. They are the person best placed to advise you if you have any hope of getting your money back. I honestly doubt you will be able to get a penny back as your solicitor will probably advise against court action as the chances are your ex has no moneyIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

I have a solicitor and yes you are right my chances are slim and not worth court. I may be able to take him to small claims court for some of the money.0

Unfortunately, I can't give any advice, but I want to say that I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I do hope you find a way to get your money back. Also, I hope you have people to support and help you. A big hug for you!1
