Legislation for Northern Ireland can differ, so may be the student loan is not available in this case.  A breakdown of the Bursary would still need to be provided to UC, so they can work out any deduction that may apply.

From RCN website related to Northern Ireland.

    HSC Bursary
If you are studying in Northern Ireland and are eligible for the Nursing and Midwifery Student Bursary, you will have maintenance elements of the bursary taken into account:

    Non means tested bursary
    Dependants’ Allowances
Are all taken into consideration as income over the 12 months of the course, or your course end date if you are in the final year.

The following elements of the Bursary should be disregarded:

    Registered Childcare Costs
    Parent Learning Allowance
    Clinical Placement Expenses
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Not sure I follow your logic regarding non means tested.  It reads to me as though it's the bursary itself is paid to anyone whether they are on UC or a millionaire i.e. it is the provision of the bursary that is non means tested.

From the information @huckster posted, it appears to indicate the maintenance element of the bursary will be means-tested by UC.

Assuming your wife did not claim any dependents elements in addition to the basic bursary, so it is the £430pm UC will need to be aware of in order for them to assess how much (if any) is able to be disregarded.

If the bursary includes dependents elements, I'd suggest you speak CAB as a matter of urgency.

    Hi Kevin,

No if she does not receive a loan then it will not affect her claim. She will need to report that she is in education though.

    Kind Regards,
    Lee

That's different to what the Royal College of Nursing says here https://www.rcn.org.uk/Get-Help/Member-support-services/Welfare-Service/Understanding-benefits/Students-and-benefits/Universal-Credit

That response doesn't tell us what the question was.

If the question was "My wife receives a bursary - with our without dependent elements - does that affect our claim?"  Then that's an absolutely grand answer.

If the question was "My wife is studying but does not receive a maintenance loan - does that affect our UC claim?"
Then that's not really a grand answer because the question does not truly reflect your wife's situation regarding income.

    That's excellent news!

At least you can stop worrying about that now, and focus on how to progress given your changing circumstances regarding your own employment/caring duties.  B)
