How reliable are these mobile retailers ?

There seem to be 2 outfits now offering the Nokia 3510 on Orange for 12 months all for free.

Onestopphoneshop

Talkworldonline

Are these reputable companies with whom it is safe to do business ?     I have partuicularly in mind the doubtless painful process of getting the cashback, on which the whole process hinges.

Does anyone understand how these deals work ?    Since Orange obviously pay commisssion to the retailer (or so the talkworldonline T&Cs say), they are effectively running this at a loss, even discounting use of the free minutes etc.

I have used Talkworld + recommended them to friends / family

All of us received the promised cash-back.

The key thing is to remember to claim it - usually its 6 months after you buy the phone.

I guess they assume that many people will forget to claim.

(put it in your diary now and remember where you keep the claim form)
  • I bought a Motorola E365 from talkworldonline for £20 plus £225 cashback (which essentially allowed a year's free Orange rent). You have to claim this back after 6 months.

It arrived within 2 days and it's great. Company seemed fine to deal with. Direct debit has been set up to pay Orange, so all sorted quickly and easily.
  • I bought a phone from dialaphone.co.uk last month. It was for a Nokia 7610 (great phone) and the deal is going to cost £305 for the year with loads of minutes and free calls at weekends for 6 months.

Anyway, my point is that I had reason to contact them recently. Despite being the latest kit, the headset and USB cables have flimsy plastic guide plugs to fit into the phone and these sheared off at the first attempt.

I have found it very hard to get through to dialaphone customer services. Their automated system must be one of the worst. It costs 9p per minute (using dial18866) and I gave up after several attempts over 10 minutes.

They even encourage people to use their web form, which I did twice, only to be told that the nature of my query required me to call them!

I got through recently by calling at 8:30am and the operator didn't know anything and had to keep referring to his supervisor.

They've told me I have to send the phone to Newcastle at my expense (special delivery).

I'm tempted to just take it into a Nokia service centre such as CPW in Marylebone and see if they'll look at it.

To summarise, the deal was great but the customer service has made up for it.
  • onestopphoneshop can be trusted,
i never had any troube with them :)

Totally agree with the comments about Dial-a-phone customer service, should be customer rip off, you spend the first 5 mins listening to all those automated voices, also tried the email route to try and save my phone bill and got the ring us reply, last time it cost me £2.00 hanging on just to talk to somebody for a minute, maybe thats how they get all there cash back deals to pay off.
In spite of the above.... has anybody had trouble getting there money back from this company via their cashback, price match, postage back schemes :-/

It appears Dial-a-Phone use a freephone number for sales but use an 0870 premium rate number for their customer services.

BTW, 0870 numbers cost 7.51p/min in the daytime on BT Together.

If you check out Saynoto0870 you will find a geographical alternative for them. :)

I've just tried it (020 7241 8600) and it says "The call centre default message" and goes silent. ???

Have you tried following numbers? 020 7241 8601 gives the same message. You might get to one which will accept your call. If you do please post the number on Saynoto0870. :)
