Hello. I'm looking for some guidance regarding Tax Credits. I received a Tax Credit Award Declaration pack back in December 2024 for 06/04/2024 - 07/04/2024 (2 days) . Now as this was 4 days i was off work due to unforeseen circumstance "self employed" i wrote 0.00 within the "income received from self employment" on the form and sent it back before the 15/01/2025. a letter as of today they are saying i owe £2683 in overpayment of tax credits from the period 07/04/2024? Why would they pursue such a high amount of overpayment based over just 2 days? any help or guidance greatly received.

No typo. image included of the form .
It was always "yearly" as normal . this one came in out the blue the same time entitlement for tax credits ended to migrate to UC which i didn't go ahead with, thought nothing of it, gave them what they asked for based on those specific dates.. and now owe the basically a full year back.

Have you checked those 2 dates?
They are the Saturday and Sunday before the 2024-2025 Tax year started on Monday 8th April.
Had you only submitted your 2023-2024 Tax Return up to Friday 5th? So the letter was asking you to complete it for the full year.In which case the £2683 may well be an overpayment of TC for the whole 2023-2024 Tax year, which ended on 07/04/2024.I assume there are some contact details on the payment demand, you are going to have to query things.

Well my 23/24 return was submitted 29th of October 2024 online, so they have included note of my income from 6th of April 23 to 5th of April 2024 on the decision letter that came on the 26th of February.. which also included the 2 days which was 0. Yes they have contact details of which I'll need to pursue this.. appreciate the response thank you0

Did you receive tax credits after 6/4/24 ?
As your income for 24/25 was nil then you are not entitled to any payments for 24/25 so they would now be an overpayment.

Yes i still received them after 6/4/24 up until December 24 which was the last payment..0

Your income for 6/4 to 7/4 was nil so again no entitlement to tax credits. These payments are now due to paid back.0 -
