I would say that the hire car company are not liable for the flight delay, that is down to RyanAir. Are you entitled to compensation from RyanAir for an arrival more than 3 hours later? I guess that depends on the reason for the change and when you were notified. Unless you travel insurance covers consequential loss, I think you don’t stand a chance with the car hire company. That said, I don’t see why arriving late means an additional charge if the office is still open. If they haven’t got the car you booked, then usually you get an upgraded car for free, if you aren’t persuaded to upgrade.

Ryanair let us know ages ago that the flight would be changing and I called them immediately to try resolve, but getting quoted £650 to pick the car up later is just madness.

A similar company charged my wife's elderly disabled parents (alot) to upgrade when they were late for pick up because of delays, because they did not notify them about the delay(despite having the flight number) and said they had sold their car. With some support, they got all their money back via the credit card company.
