if your child has a JISA in the 25/26 tax year, turns 18 in January 2026 so this then moves to an ISA, does it go towards the £20,000 ISA allowance?

no, it's not new money - it's existing ISA money.0

even if the £9,000 was paid in this tax year?0

in that case yes - I was assuming no new deposit in the JISA. The total amount for the year is £20k so if you've already paid in £9k to the JISA and then is transferred to an ISA, you'd be left with £11k allowance.0
