Applying for a blue badge - Supporting medical evidence.

Hi folks,

Some years back I had a blue badge but it was taken off me but recently I've been advised to try and apply again. But I'm a bit confused. I've thought for the past 5 - 10 years that I now needed to be on the enhanced mobility of PIP to qualify for a blue badge but recently was told that isn't the case and that I can get a blue badge if I have severe mobility issues. In the application it says they want some supporting medical evidence but what type of evidence does this mean?

A letter from my doctor, or proof of my disability? It's not too clear and I've tried looking it up but I need some clarification. What type of evidence will I need to obtain before I apply?

Thanks.

I have a blue badge,  no nothing for mobility on PIP, CAB wanted me to appeal but I had got standard on daily living & didn’t want to risk that. Evidence that I sent ( which isn’t very helpful as I didn’t get it on PIP) but for blue badge took into account pain & breathlessness aswell as decreased mobility. I gave consultants letters & physio input. Just in process of having a review as mobility decreased but now have a diagnosis which I think helps well I hope so. Hope that helps.

Each local authority is different but many will award a Blue badge automatically with a certain number of PIP points. However you can still apply for a discretionary Blue badge if you don't have enough points. When i am helping people to apply I usually send hospital letters, prescription list, GP summary report etc.

With the Mrs. We did it before claiming PIP. Just filled in the form online. & went for a assessment run by local council. All sorted & approved there.

I think the standard criteria include scoring 8 for moving around so they all have to.

When I applied for my first BB before PIP, I didn't actually have a lot of evidence - an OT report from work (I was off long-term sick at the time), my diagnosis letter, and my repeat prescription, because that's all I had.

Btw the CAB person helping me explained that the 'how far can you walk from your house' question meant, how far could you get and back without significant distress/pain/fatigue.  Just in case they still have that question.

Thanks for all the replies. It might be worth contacting my local council to see what actually is required because I'm still not entirely sure if I'd qualify. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my knees and ankles, have very limited mobility so I want to make sure.

The crazy thing is, I was told by two different people at my local job centre that I needed to have enhanced mobility to get a blue badge now and that's why I didn't think it was worth trying. But I know other people who have less severe mobility issues and they had a blue badge, so that just confused me.

    Thanks again.

Have a look online at the application form for the authority that would issue your Blue Badge because criteria varies, the link is here https://www.gov.uk/apply-blue-badge.  You may not need any supporting information; I have a Blue Badge and did not need to supply anything in support of my application and I am not in receipt of any benefits either.

In my local council you have to go for an assessment this is walking up and down a hall. It's too see how far you can walk .  I have had a blue badge for 4 years and only just got pip. So contact your local council.
