Hi there, I will keep it short, husband left last week, amicable split, he is living with his parents until he finds a rented property. Has agreed I can stay in the jointly mortgaged home until our fixed rate comes to an end (3 years time) we have 3 children, 1 on PIP and 1 on DLA, I work full time, earn £1900 a month, would anyone know if I could claim universal credit ? We have split our savings so I am left with £5k. Many thanks 😊

Thanks ‘born_again’ I have checked this out and it is saying I could be entitled but I’m scared to apply if it’s not correct, would my earnings, children’s benefits and savings not exclude me 🤔 I would hate to apply, recieve and then be landed with a big over oayment bill, never claimed before so this is all new. Many thanks for the comment 🙏😊0

No reason to fear over payments. You just have to be open & upfront about savings etc. Which include the likes of premium bonds, Pay Pal accounts etcLife in the slow lane2 -
Ah thank you so much for the advice, it’s such a stressful time, trying to get my finances in order will be one less thing to worry about, I appreciate your time 😊

Agree just be open and honest with the DWP/Job centre/in your application and you've nothing to fear. It's not pleasant having to claim but worth doing if it looks as though you'll be entitled to some help.2

It’s also worth noting that if you have disabled children & claim universal credit you can apply for more financial help from places like family fund etc.1

Just so you know, PIP and DLA are not counted as income for UC.lje1981 said:Thanks ‘born_again’ I have checked this out and it is saying I could be entitled but I’m scared to apply if it’s not correct, would my earnings, children’s benefits and savings not exclude me 🤔 I would hate to apply, recieve and then be landed with a big over oayment bill, never claimed before so this is all new. If they remain unspent and accumulate then that counts towards savings, but they're not income to exclude you - and actually having disabled children means you're entitled to more UC than someone without.
Also UC is calculated monthly based on actual circumstances, so any changes are taken into account straight away and any issues can be quickly identified and addressed
