in Water bills
Hi, I received a letter from United Utilities saying they have partnered with Cenergist to offer me a free water MOT where they check all taps, toilets and showers etc in my home for leaks and repair them where needed and just do a general check of any problems, they will install a Control Flow device for free which they say will save me money without altering the water pressure.
I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this letter or similar either from UU or any other water supplier and if they have had the Control Flow device and if it has effected things. I am just not sure whether this is of genuine benefit or just some marketing from UU and an attempt to restrict my water consumption (along with anyone else wanting to get these devices installed). I did have a problem with an outside leak a while ago but that had been fixed so there shouldn't be any problems now but perhaps they have offered it to me because of previous issues.
I am just very sceptical of companies offering things to consumers for free and saying how much of a benefit they will be to us and how much money we will save.

I had the flow control device fitted by UU last week. It was fitted just after the water meter,
I was given a choice, to reduce the flow from 16 to 15 or a bigger reduction (can't remenber how much). I chose the 16 to 15.
I have not noticed any difference in water pressure or performance, too early to see if bills will be reduced.
Fitting took less than 1 hour, The meter and pipework are in an easily accesible cupboard.0 -
Anglian Water did something similar a few years ago, giving away stuff.
I got a handful of flow reducers which I've fitted to all my taps and shower. They do slow the flow a bit, so it takes a bit longer to fill a sink so you tend to use less, especially when washing hands etc. The shower gives around 6lpm rather than ten-twelve ,which saves around 40-50% . We dont really notice the reduction in flow.
We do have dual flush toilets but the low flush hardly dilutes the contents and wont flush solids so we never use it.
Our water costs have just gone up by just over £1 cu.m (around £75 a year) so its worthwhile being on a meter and keeping consumption down to save money as well as water.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
