Yay - received a letter today detailing what years I can pay and the difference it will make to my pension (started in 2021). It came as a bit of a surprise as I only had one brief phone call weeks ago to confirm NI and DOB and was expecting another phone call for further details. I do have to contact HMRC to confirm so I will try today but in all likelihood it will be an early morning phone call (early for me at least) next week. Thanks to the help received on this forum, and my own calculations, I have the cash put to one side for this purpose as it matches the letter all bar a few pennies.
It appears that those who requested callbacks and who are already in receipt of their pension are receiving letters with the information rather than another phone call. This fits in with the normal procedure of the Future Pension Centre handling those who’ve still to reach SPA and the Pension Centre handling those already in receipt.

Yes - I'm glad it's all sorted now. I have had a lot of medical appointments in the last few weeks (all over for now, hopefully) so I hadn't thought about it too much but was sort of thinking I ought to chase it up when the letter arrived. I made the payment yesterday and now just waiting for my pension to be recalculated, which I understand can take a while to process - and trying to ignore the fact that I will pay more income tax on my company pension. Hey ho, such is life.

Why worry about 20% tax when you’ll still receive the other 80%?

I'm not worrying - I'm ignoring (and it was just a throwaway remark in truth). I know that I am in a very privileged position to be able to afford to pay tax, and to pay the NIC contributions in the first place. I have one or two friends of a similar age who rely on pension credits just to live and who do have cause for worry every time cuts in benefits etc. are mentioned. I'm actually happy to pay the tax, especially if it going to help those less fortunate, and keep services running.
