So had the text on Wednesday last week that someone would call the following day, no phone call, to be honest it looks like a scam. Received a call this morning left a voicemail they would call back tomorrow. This call is for my husband, due to the nature of his work there is no way that he can drop everything and answer or even hear his phone. I handle everything as also a Self employed Book-Keeper, I know the amount to pay I just need them to tell me how to pay it, got a feeling they won't talk to me due to data protection even though I am not asking for any confidential information. anyone had this happen ?0

I had a phone call from a freephone number yesterday saying they were from the Pensions Service and that I had registered for a callback (which is correct I have). The information they wanted was DOB and NI number, read out a prepared script (northern UK accent) and said I would get a return call and nothing about a text. Seriously think this may be a scam.0

I received a text today from DWP saying they have received my request for a callback and that I will still be able to pay if registered before April 5th (which it was). So it looks as if they are catching up now.0

Does anyone know what to do if a callback is not received within 8 weeks?
The website just says no action is required and that they will call back. I don't see any update suggesting a delay in responding.1 -
I've just had my promised call back after I left my details with HMRC in March. The call came 2 days late. After getting the text I've spent the last two days with my phone in my pocket as the threat from DWP text was that i would only get two chances to answer.
My son was worried it was a scam - the scammers surely know there are hundreds if not thousands out there waiting for a call back and to share personal details?
Certainly it felt very dodgy as the caller demanded my NI number and DOB, whereas I felt they should have some way to prove who they were. When I queried if they could prove who they were, they said they could give me a number to call instead. I asked if it was the one where you wait on the line for an hour and then get cut off. She was very robotic and reading from a script. No humour or sense of why I might be suspicious. IT felt like i was being told give me the info or you're on your own again. So I'm thinking fast and wondering if that would then invalidate my being allowed to make payments backdated since their system had failed back in March so feel pressured into giving her my details. I gave in and told her NI number and DOB, expecting her to say you have X gaps and owe £Y but instead she immediately responded that I would get a call from someone else, thank you and goodbye and hung up.... no chance for me to ask when or ask why she had needed me to give her that info. So it felt like I'd just given my details to a scammer..... hoping it was real yikes.
Anyone got any clues what is going on here?

Am already receiving state pension but was made aware that I could top-up empty years which previously were not open to me. The online top-up was available to me and the phone number merry go 'round got me nowhere so registered for a call back. The 8 week deadline was yesterday (Wed April 30) and received a text on 28th April saying I would be called the next day. The call came the next day April 29th. The female handler asked for NI and Name and Address and then promptly told me that I would receive another call back. When I politely asked why she could not help she simply could not explain and she did not speak fluently or confidently about what would happen next. She also could not say when I would get the next call. So, today 1 May I received a tel' call from DWP with no human answer but which only delivered a text type message which in broken english said that they had tried twice to call me and that they would not bother again but to call the DWP number ending 175 - the same number which I got nowhere with before but I tried again and got nowhere again. Frustrated (again) I eventually managed to speak to someone in State Pension Changes who was as exasperated as I was. In short, the left and right hand situation still exists and there is no process for those in receipt of state pension to make further top-ups except online. She explained that the online form for call backs was never intended for those already drawing their pension and so the call back handlers can never help. She made a note of my enquiry/request for help on my file but currently there is a dead-end for those like me who have no online top-up option and have passed the deadline but raisded a request for call back.. ....simply no way out of this !!!0
