KFC SWEETCORN ?????
Does anyone know if whole sweetcorn can be frozen ?
I am trying to get them like the corn on the cobs that you buy from KFC.
I have bought 6 for £1 from the market and wanted to cut them in half with butter and a skewer stuck in.
Do i need to blanch them first
Thanks Sarah1

Yeah, you need to blanch them in plenty of boiling water before freezing - don't forget to take all the outer leaves off first.
For best results cook from frozen.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I read somewhere that one of the TV chefs (sorry, can't remember) freezes them with the leaves and all. Might be worth experimenting with one or two of your cobs. I guess the leaves act like a freezer bag
BTW ... your corn was almost certainly not English and therefore might lack the lovely sweetness that you can only get with absolutely fresh local sweetcorn. English sweetcorn should be available in August. Possibly a week earlier if the weather is good, but we'll need plenty of sun and warm temperatures.

I think that was Phil Vickery - I'm sure I saw him on Ready, Steady, Cook say that he does that to protect them from freezer burn (whether he puts them in a bag or not, I don't remember him saying) and also to protect them when thrown onto the BBQ. Although I suppose you'd have to take off the tassles in case they caught fire.0 -
you can leave all the leaves etc on when placed on the BBQ, it protects them and the burning helps cook them, they are ready before the leaves are burnt off, but when they have gone - its certainly cooked!!!! Kind of like an oven timer for cooking!!
We always cooked corn on the cobs (mieles) when growing up!!!0 -
I'm growing my own sweetcorn so I'm hoping they are going to taste better than shop bought ones. If I get a bumper crop, I now know I can freeze them. Thanks for that.
Does anyone know how high they grow? I'm not sure if I have enough room in the veg patch for them all!0 -
The ones around here make five to six feet. They're planted quite close together too.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. HI jet , i am also (trying) growing sweetcorn in the garden.
A friend of mine told me that they need to be planted about 10 inches apart because each plant needs to be touching each other to be able to pollenate.
Mine are only about 12 inches high at the moment but i was told they grow to around 5 or 6 foot.
I was also told that you only get one cob per plant but i'm not sure how true that is., because i never seen any growing  ( i'm new to all this home grown stuff at the moment)
Good luck i hope yours do well.0 -
Surprisingly in Tesco yesterday the ready prepared frozen cobs were cheaper than the loose with the husks still on. On top of that the frozen were also on BOGOF:j My kidz love them cold in their lunch boxLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

It's true that they need to be close together, planted in blocks rather than rows. I grew the mini corn cobs a few years ago and there were just 3 or 4 cobs per plant.0 -
