Hi, I grow sweetcorn every year and I always freeze each cob asap in its leaves. I take off the silks (brown threads that grow out the top) as they break off and make a mess. I just fill a plastic carrier bag with them and then tie the top and bung it in the freezer. When I want to use them I take out how many I need and leave them until they start to defrost and then its very easy to strip off the outer leaves. I usually put rubber gloves on as it makes your fingers quite cold. I have about 50 plants in my allotment - I love sweetcorn
You will normally only get one sweetcorn per plant, 2 if you are lucky. You need to water them every day. They would also benefit from a tomato feed in a couple of weeks. They have to be planted in blocks to pollinate.
Hope this helps!0 -
I know it sounds silly but does anyone know how KFC cook their corn on the cob?
I can live without KFC, but I literally crave their corn on the cob! I can't go a fortnight without it.
If I could cook it at home, assuming it's just corn (?) it would save me a fortune, since DH will always say if we're going for bloody corn, we might as well have the whole caboodle!
Just boiling it in water just isn't the same. I've tried different brands... nothing is the same.Debt @ LBM 29/12/08 - £49044! Are they boiling it in a sugar/salt mix? I don't know as I haven't tried it before. I'm not very keen on KFC. When I lived in America I know there is a butter granular shake on stuff. Can't remember the name, but maybe they are using that. Good luck with finding the answer.0

I buy the bags of frozen half cobs, boil them then dip in melted butter or rub butter on them as soon as they come out of the pan. I love corn on the cob.Dum Spiro Spero0

I used to work there and they are just normal corn cobs covered in water then microwaved. The reason they taste different probably has something to do with the 'butter-like' liquid they are dipped in after cooking. I can't remember specifically what this stuff was, but I remember it made me retch a bit. Sorry!0
