Cancel Virgin Media first or get FTTP first?

I am currently with virgin Media for broadband and telephone and my contract ends in May where all the discounts I get end and my cost is going up by £40 from £55 to £95.
I can now get FTTP so should I wait until my contract ends with Virgin and cancel in the hope that I can get broadband from them for £33 which I can get FTTP?
Or should I just go ahead and order FTTP for £33 and then cancel Virgin Media?

Given you have to give Virgin 30 days notice. If you want FTTP, better apply now. As may have a lead time before install.
If you need internet, then better to have a overlap, than none. Unless you could tether a phone, or get access to a mobile router.Life in the slow lane0 -
If you can get a much cheaper alternative give Virgin one chance to match it, if they can't simply cancel their contract and move.
Be aware that cancelling Virgin can be tortuous.

I would order FTTP before cancelling, even better dont cancel until FTTP is live, the reduced risk of having no internet surely is worth a single month paying two subs? Things can go wrong on FTTP orders if the property has yet to have an installation.0

Virgin are now part of the One Touch switching scheme I believe, so if you are moving to an ISP which is also part of this then it is the most logical way to move and the notification and move is managed for you.0

Wow, much easier than what I went through switching. But is the fttp provider also part of one touch switch?0 -

What about switching from Virgin Media, will it be as easy as that?0 -
Very much order fttp and let them cancel virgin media. It’s seamless and cheaper for you.Pic someone like Vodafone that does one touch switch.Phone new provider 1 month before contract ends.Pic an install date, that is after your VM contract ends.0

I just got Sky broadband and am using Sky's switching service.
I still have 2 months left but I have just had an email from Virgin telling me I have to pay £27 cancelation fee.
Cheaper than 2 months DD's0
