No if they see payments going in or out that doesn't fit the conditions they'll give notice to close that account. Mainly they look at business and donations in personal accounts and if they suspect that it's being used wrongly they'll just give notice that they intend to close it. So currently the DWP doesn't have access but can request your statements. But some banks are partly owned by government because of financial crash.Pip_cas1 said:
The bank can close your account if you have more than £16000 and claiming UC? Is that what you mean?TimeLord1 said:Even if a bank suspects it they can close your account pretty quickly. They have conditions and rules and their own bots soon flag up anything that doesn't fit.0 -
So anything that does make it into law probably won't happen until next year.
"The government previously announced plans to cut £8.6 billion over five years by targeting benefit fraud through its Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill, which is set to come into force in 2026"0 -
Don't disagree, but I expect it will save much less than forecast as so easily circumvented. Benefit paid into current account one, that account scanned. transfer money from current account one to current account two, that account not scanned.NedS said:Personally I'd much rather see more stringent anti-fraud measures than cutting the benefits of the vulnerable and disabled.
